i actually don't remember what xanxia i have watched before join MDL.
So, this would be my first FAV xanxia. (immortal samsara i need to rewatch before can rate it) this probably set the standard too high now!

I would've recommended my friend to watch a classic wuxia, and then watch MLC. Normally, wuxia focus on revenge and trying to be top martial artist. MLC has a different moral. So that makes MLC more special!

MLC is still definitely more classic wuxia, but with better camerawork and good fighting choreography. if you enjoyed Cheng Yi's fighting scenes, which didn't have stand-ins - I think finding another wuxia with his level of sword fight is going to be tough!

The screenwriter for this is same as "love and redemption". So if you liked the MLC story and pacing, check that one out though it's actually wuxia/xianxia.

Classic like Condor Heroes '83 really best represent wuxia. But probably 2017 version is easier on eyes. I don't know is it too much of classic?

For something more modern, "The Long Ballad" and "The Wolf" have some of that classic wuxia vibe.

My heart. This was such a top quality drama. Not perfect but one of my favorites.

First watch for the plot, second one for the details, third one for LLH life reflection with our own life, the rest rewatches for not able to let go LLH 😜

though i see the ending this way since i don't think it ended positively. That beggar told him the location of the dead body. So that's where LLH died. As for his figure that appeared, i think it meant that he finally got the life he wanted for a few moments, right before his death. So that was him before his death, looking at the sea, a flashback. Ultimately what FDB and DFS saw was the empty beach. As for the dog, well it came with FDB, so its normal for it to look up and wag its tail looking at FDB when they stopped.
But i must say that if my interpretation is right, it would indeed be a fitting ending. Also, i believe such an ending was way too much of a forceful tragic ending because obviously in the last episode of the series, the king could've been surely saved by some other way. But i believe they purposely made it like that to give us a sad open ending. At least i am thankful that QWM and LLH didn't get back together.

There are many characters and paralel stories, so for those who are not used to wuxia dramas or dramas with lots of characters, it may be a little difficult to understand or tag along with the pace of story in the beginning. BUT only in the beginning! Blood of youth is a wonderful wuxia+palace scheme drama! This is definitely one of the best dramas I ever watched!!
Xiao Se reminds me of Li Lianhua from Mysterious Lotus Casebook: a sarcastic old fox. The fight scenes are excellent! This drama is perfect!!

While watching it I was reminded of NiF because of the brilliance and weakness of the ML. Ive watched NiF about 3 or 4 times already so I encourage you to do a rewatch. You might notice things you didnt before as I have done everytime.

it's interesting to see LLH interact with ZYF becuz that's the only person his age he can talk normally with so we get to see a new side to him haha it's like who lin chen was to Mei changsu (NIF)

The more eps i watched the ugly sobbing my tears dropped for li lianhua :'((( he's such a kind hearted man ahh. Why this drama reminded me of male lead from the untamed and nirvana in fire😭

In episode 28 and it's still so so so boring

Its funny to read this, since I found the characters and plot of MLC too uninteresting/boring to keep watching. Probably these dramas appeal to different audiences. For me, the first episodes of TBOY introduce the characters and world very well, hard to imagine, whats so difficult to get. Since this dramas has a lot of fans, you can find plenty of helpful character overviews, if you wanted to. But since it just does not seem to be your style/type of drama, of course, don't force yourself.
(For the question, why are they traveling: Wujie was on his way to his new Sect, Xiaose joins him seemingly for the money, but probably more reasons. They meet Tang Lian, who is from that sect, Wujie is about to join, so they decide to help Tang Lian with his mission first, before going to the city of that sect, as initially planned. Nothing of this is hidden between the lines.)
