When he got that second chance and became a part of Misa's life, he didn't push too hard. He is still gentle and lets Misa do her thing. He is just there... waiting... I think he also was not hoping to be with her, but he was happy that he saw her moving forward and loving herself again.
Just remember when Misa bumped into Wataru in the elevator, he quickly introduced himself and gave his calling card. Most of the time, the boss doesn't do that. :)
