For the ML, he was there for revenge because of what happened 20 years ago( 299 children died and his mom commited suicide). anyway, he was the one who led the rebellion.
FL and ML relationship (1st life): 4 years prior to the rebellion, on their way back to the capital FL saved ML when he was having a crazy episode. He developed a soft spot for her, but as years passed he was disappointed because he learned how evil she was. As you know ML was ruthless and manipulative, but he never hurt the FL. She was just scared of him because she thinks he wants to kill her.. anyway I don’t want to spoil everything. basically she misunderstood him because he killed almost everyone around her and he was the mastermind of it all.
