I don't think the "red flag male lead" trend works like that, at least not for me. Usually, the male lead might be involved in shady business or force his way into the female lead's life but he always chooses her above everything else. He stands by her, takes revenge on her behalf and only has eyes for her. That's what people mean when they say "He's a red flag, but I'm colorblind."
If the male lead kept abandoning the female lead, I doubt people would like him. Just look at Zhang Linghe's Our Generation. I saw a lot of criticism toward his character. Even I didn’t like it. But TFF aired just before it and people were largely okay with the female lead ghosting the male lead.
And yeah, Susu saving him so many times and shielding him with her body twice is the only thing that's still making me root for their happy ending.
i found it so ironic how the child murong qingyi told the child ren susu i didn't beg you to save me after she…
Let's be honest, if it were the male lead who had betrayed or abandoned the female lead so many times despite her loving and helping him on her own account, almost everyone(including me)would be calling him a red flag or even a cheater( if he'd pretended to marry her sister or made her believe he'd gotten another one of her sisters pregnant, like Susu did with his brothers) But only about half the audience is calling her a red flag.
That's a reaction to her actions lol. Are you forgetting that she was the one who pointed a gun at him first? That was even more sudden because he thought they were in a normal relationship. He said he hated her, sure but how many cruel things has she said to him? Or do her words and actions not matter to you? Is he the only one who's expected to be held to a higher standard
They have small part in meng ziyi and dylan's new drama. That's my only hope for now. You may want to check it out when it airs. It's also not a green flag romance
The ratings....:( I've never liked this trope of the ML sacrificing everything while FL leaves him whenever it's convenient but I thought people usually loved it. TFF and NES were so popular and barely anyone questioned their female leads.
But people are very vocal about Susu not deserving Qingyi. IMO she has the most valid reasons for acting this way. She was groomed as a child to be sold to rich men. I totally understood her before but this latest revenge plot and abandoning Qingyi pissed me off tho.
I remember the TFF female lead ghosting the male lead a second time for no real reason but anyone who criticized her got called names. Is it because Overdo was already being criticized, so people feel freer to criticize Susu too?
I do plan to watch the drama you mentioned, along with xueer's new drama. But after Qianmin's ending, I went down such a rabbit hole that I ended up becoming their shipper😭I'm trying to let go of those feelings first before watching their other projects.
