Having Ye Tan see that even voidwalkers are mourning Qing Kui was heartbreaking. No matter where she went, Qing Kui was loved.
There are villains who do bad things..and villains who do despicable things. While the Void Emperor and Empress did bad things, Heaven Emperor did despicable things. Attacking your enemy's loved ones to hurt them was smart, but erasing your son's memories then having him unknowingly attack the woman he loves is such a despicable thing to do. It is an honor-less and shameless thing to do. It would already be bad if HE only wanted power, what's scary is that he genuinely thinks he's doing the right thing.
Can someone please tell me if Yetan gets better as a character? At the moment she's really annoying and doesn't…
She gets better after episode 3. She appears super whiny in 1 and 2. Does she get stronger? Not until much later. Remember that she and Qing Kui are mortals who are dwelling with immortal beings. Either way, they won't be stronger magically or physically. When they return from the mortal arc is when her character is the best.
I have to wonder if HE and Empress passed the bridge test. And if they did how? The way he disregards/underestimates…
Maybe the bridge doesn't care for love. Being fated together doesn't necessarily mean you have to love each other. Perhaps their coupling was a means to an end to birth You Qin or something..seeing as he was the first to complete the perfect celetial body and seal Guixu without dying.
i am confused why the Heavenly emperor even agreed to a marriage between YQ and a princess from the mortal world…
He wasn't supposed to survive anyways. She was nothing more than a symbol of peace between the humans and the immortals. Qing Kui was prepared t live as a widow for the rest of her life.
I wonder if agreeing to let Ye Tan live is part of Heaven Emperor's long term scheme. Qing Kui had to die so she couldn't use her power on him but letting Ye Tan live means she could regain her power and wipe out the Void Emperor. When that was done, he'd send in You Qin to kill her. He knows she'd never hurt You Qin. In the end, he'd truly control all 4 realms...thinking about it makes me hate him even more.
Just when you think the emperors couldn't sink any lower, they resolve to attack a weaker realm and will justify it! Their deaths can't come soon enough!
I still don't love Emperor Tun..but he gets a standing ovation from me today!!
Been crying all morning. I'm too sad to chat.ManMan is the saddest scene thus so far, even more so than the shards…
Man Man was literally sent to her to be her guardian angel TT
Looking back and seeing Man Man with her on every step of her journey only makes my heart break more and more. Every scheme, every shenanigan, and every moment of sadness/happiness; Man Man was always by her side. Plus they were both so excited for their soulmate day yet they couldn't celebrate it together TT TT TT
I've never been so sad to see a side character die before.
Something xianxia drama makers have to consider in scriptwriting is that we are no longer in a drama watching era where audiences want to see leads sacrifice themselves for the greater good or be silent protectors of their lady-loves. We don't want to see leads who are duty-bound to the point where that's where the tension comes from. I think it's why any sort of rendition of the tropes from Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms, Ancient Love Story, Love and Redemption, Ashes of Love, etc don't work anymore. A relationship is a partnership based on equality and mutual love and respect; not secret keeping, not "I'll be cold to her to protect her," and certainly not "I'll sacrifice myself so she can live even if it means she'll mourn me for the rest of her long-ass life."
That's why YQ/YT and CF/QK work so well. There's no self-sacrifice and while YQ was duty-bound in his original form, he quickly scrapped that notion after his rebirth. And while QK/CF is the more "traditional" xianxia couple..their conflict doesn't stretch to the extent as the ones listed above.
