In the novel, in her second life when the ML accidently runs into her who is a slave/maid in his household, the scene is beautifully written. She is singing and doing her chores on a rock right next to a stream and the sun is beating down on her. He is taken by her immediately but she runs away from him and he didn't even know who she is, only knows she's wearing a slave/maid outfit. She has a previous life with her loving husband and this is a rebirth story.

I read the novel as well and I agree with you about her previous life with her husband. In my opinion, her previous life revealed a very important part of her character and conviction about herself that she holds so firmly even in her rebirthed life. I was very concerned the adaptation is so off from the character of the female lead but so the script writer and director have done a very good job to retain the essence and soul of the female lead's character.

We still don't know the background of Feng Xiao Xiao and Liu Hong Bin. Although Feng Xiao Xiao appears from a pretty good family, certainly better than LaiDi's but still could be from a small place. From the episode 32 Laidi's uncle seems to know Liu Hong Bin's family because he made the phone call to try to get him out of the jail. Their upbring and the family background might make their personality. Liu Hong bin is very assertive because he was spoiled. The drama has reveal any of the background of these two. I didn't read the novel so can't even make a guess.
Sorry for the long winding post, my point is Feng Xiao Xiao didn't even try to fight for Laidi. Even though Laidi had ascended high, he should have at least tried to fight to get her if he really loved her.
