This was an awesome movie. I don't know if it was based off of a true story, but I loved every moment. The only reason i decided to watch it was because of some recommendation that it was similar to Casshern. However, Casshern can't come close to the storyline and acting skills founded in this move. From the background setting of the plot, to the fighting scenes, and of course the development of the characters. Everything was achieved with great attention to detail, that any moment the audience would be thrown into an emotional roll a-coaster ride. In fact, to prove my point after you watch the whole movie, try watching it in segments starting at any point. I believe that you will still get the scene of the film and be drawn into the plot without even seeing the beginning. When a film can do that in my opinion that's a sign of great achievement.
