As European, just curious what you mean with stereotypical?😅
Good for you (seriously, without sarcasm) that your neighbor broadened your horizons. I was raised in South America which has huge chinese communities, I've lived in San Francisco and Los Angeles also with huge chinese communities, and I've vacationed in 39 countries around the world (more than once in several of them). But it was only in 2021 that I watched my first C-drama and I couldn't believe how gorgeous the lead was. I remember I got hooked in youtube videos watching the hottest chinese male models and actors (and sending them to my friends LOL)
And how tall they were!! Truly, I was so amazed that I even read a whole research article about how the chinese government started the National school milk program in 2000 in some major cities to increase the people's height (bones and nutrition) and then expanded it to a lot of cities. It was so effective that the chinese men gained a lot of height, the average 19-year-old increased in height by 8 cm (3 inches) and by 2019 the average height of 19-year-old men had reached 176 cm (5'9"). Amazingly, it's still today the fastest height growth rate globally in history. I guess I'll have to visit China in the future to broaden more my horizons because all that living and vacationing didn't work, never met a chinese guy who was gorgeous, not in parties, studying, working. I mean what a very rotten luck LOL

I don't agree that he by himself will change any stereotypes, BUT you're speaking nonsense because THERE ARE stereotypes in the US, where I graduated from college and currently live, Stereotypes not only about how chinese guys look, but about how guys from other countries look (latin, indian, etc). Also, at least in Spain and France (that I visit very often and have many friends there) is the same. In fact, every time that I show women friends and colleagues in the US and those other 2 countries, photos and videos of C-dramas male leads, they get so impressed, always saying they've never imagined chinese guys to be so handsome and tall.

Thank you so much! So many years being here and I didn't know about this, thank you for the tip!

Please apologize for calling me names or I'll report you. Here in MDL everyone must be respectful. And my comment was only in response to your blame game: "the poor girls life is over because of him".

that creep deserves to be hanged the poor girls life is over because of him and he won’t even admit it with…
Your comment makes me guess that you may be very young, because her life is not over because of KSH. She was 13 years old and the romantic lead of an actor 9 years older (her mother was her agent), maybe later on she thought that the age difference with KSH was normal. But whatever psychological problems, relationships or family, no one can blame other people for the choices we make and the decisions we take in our lives.
The "blame" game that you're using is not only very immature but also shows me that you (and the people who liked your comment) don't believe that we are responsible for our own lives and that we are the ones that have to change, seek help, face our problems, and grow.
She had enough self-control to participate in whole dramas, thus, she should have been able to realize her life was spiraling (below in this chat there's a comment by user RuxiTS who listed her problems, suicide attempts since she was 18, drunk driving, fired from her agency, few roles), especially after her short marriage to a guy who abused her according to her close friends.
I always pity, but also avoid, people who blame others for their problems.

So I was rating 10 the first 15 eps, then the script started to worsen really fast (plot holes, unbelievable actions, plot devices, cringy scenes), Episodes 30-34 didn't even deserve a rating higher than 3. At the end I averaged this whole thing and gave it 6,5/10. (sigh) Another overrated drama in MDL. Then I realized that my ratings may differ from MDL, but are usually similar to the local audiences (chinese Douban, korean Watcha, Nemu). Therefore, out of curiosity I asked AI about the gap in MDL ratings and other international sites, and got this:

"Ratings on MyDramaList (MDL) continue to face criticism primarily because their ratings are viewed as popularity contests rather than objective assessments of quality.

The platform’s scoring system is widely regarded as inflated and misleading, with users often rating based on emotional attachment to leads rather than acting or plot quality.

Key reasons for the ongoing criticism include:

• Fandom and "Stan" Behavior: High-stakes voting by devoted fans, particularly for idol actors can artificially boost ratings to a 10/10, regardless of the actual production quality. Conversely, "antis" or rival fan groups may vote-bomb dramas.
• Lack of Rigorous Critique: Unlike other sites with knowledgeable, professional or critical reviewers, MDL is driven by a base of casual users that often prioritizes romance, tropes, and aesthetics over acting, script, and technical production.
• Rating Before Completion: Users can rate shows before they have aired or before finished airing, allowing incomplete assessments to dictate a rating.
• Recency and Hype Bias: New, highly anticipated shows often receive inflated ratings while they are airing.
• Inflated Rating Scale: Many users interpret "10" as "I enjoyed this" rather than "this is a masterpiece," leading to an overabundance of 9+ ratings. Consequently, many users consider a 7.5 or 8.0 on MDL to be a mediocre or average show, whereas on other platforms with more knowledgeable members, these are strong scores."

So, what I'll do is to continue to use my excel list of users similar to me, and when none of them have watched the drama, I'll use local ratings/reviews for feedback and ignore the ratings here.

I wonder, at what age a person should stop blaming others and take control of their lives? You, as well, are blaming others for her problems. More ridiculously, you speak of justice, but she wasn't murdered. Everyone is responsible for their own decisions, for changing their present and future. True, her mother started grooming her when she made her be the romantic lead of an actor 9 years older when she was just 13.. I guess that by the time she had another relationship with an older guy she saw it as normal. But after her marriage ended, it is my opinion that she should have seen the signs that she needed help. Well, we don't even know if her family or husband tried to help her or not, this is all speculation, but the truth remains that we can't blame anybody for our decisions.

Her mother started grooming her when she allowed her 13 years-old daughter to be the romantic lead of an actor 9 years older than her. Therefore I doubt that her family didn't know.

Interesting how people can have different opinions.I've seen hundreds of cdramas and think that Pursuit of Jade…
You, DaliLee, may have watched hundred of dramas, but you just registered today as a member in MDL to post your comment. We long time members of MDL are extremely suspicious of people like you, who register to post a comment defending a particular drama, and therefore we don't give that comment any importance.

That's because you've watched very few C-dramas and none of them are historical or wuxia with the exception of The Untamed. There are many good ones an better than this one, so you'll move on pretty fast 😊

Most high-rated dramas in MDL have disappointed me. Given current high rating, I thought POJ could be an exception. All was perfect because I just loved the first episodes. But unfortunately, I have already watched 8 continuous episodes with the leads completely separated (20% of the drama), and plot holes in the (boring) Sui Yuan brothers revenge/attacks. I'm placing in on hold for later, and watch Bloody Monday which was highly recommended by a friend who shares my disappointing-high-rated-dramas history.

I just learned that she was 13 years old when she was cast to be the romantic partner of an actor 9 years older (drama: Hi! School - Love On). What a horrible mother she had, allowing her to act as a much older woman when she was just starting her teen years. With a mother like that, no wonder she had so many mental struggles growing up.
