This is brilliant! I’m weeks behind everyone, and I was one of those who complained about the FL/SML romance and the main romance only appearing at the end, but that foundation is really important for their character arcs. And they have solid characters who are believable and therefore when tragedy of happiness arrives, it packs an emotional punch. (Good characters not easy - see Blooms of Ruyi Pavillion for inconsistent characters! Grrr!).
I admit they montage the FL and SML a bit too much, but you can skip those.
I love love Lin Fang. I don’t mind he can’t do Kung fu, as he’s so dignified and smart without it. I did see an interview where Yu Menglong said he hurt himself doing a fighting scene, so he doesn’t like choosing dramas where he has to fight anymore. But he does well without fighting scenes. And fair enough, as I can see how they’re stressful for an actor.
Yu Menglong can’t do romance scenes well (stiff frozen kisser alert), but he does the build up to the romance and the unwavering unrequited love very well, so that makes it even. I don’t expect a huge deal, that’s the secret to loving him, and love him I do!
I’ve seen the FL twice now and I think she manages to have great chemistry with her MLs. Very much looking forward to her next drama with Hu Yitian!
Woooooh! Wu Bo Song! Despite being given a lame role with almost no character development in ALSB I still managed to really love him! He has such a likeable demeanour and a great smirk! I’ll give this a go even though it’s definitely not my genre.
Xu Jin is like big brothe/ mentor to Wu Bai Qi. Hate to see this scene. https://twitter.com/__shaze/status/1326170085279457280?s=21
The caption says XJ being used as a human punching bag. And WBQ says to XJ ‘Did I make a mistake while training?’ I don’t think they’re having a proper fight, I think it might be after his dad dies and WBQ maybe punishes himself by training day and night? That’s my guess.
I’ve just been looking at a Chinese review, and I don’t know where they get their information from, but the scenes look accurate. It says that Fu Rong gets taken by that Marquis who she had a childhood engagement with. He hides her in a coffin and XJ and Prince An team up to find her. But once XJ has found her he hands her to Prince An and faces down the rest of the bad guys alone.
I don’t know about you, but that sounds better to me than FR misunderstanding XJ again! Also, we know the leads can do epic romance, so the tear jerking commence!
How is this drama so far? : ) I watched Jiu Liu Overlord but stopped at ep 8..
If you loved the main couple in LYX you’ll like this. Story and characters are far from perfect, but the chemistry is still there!
Thanks for the heads up about Jiu Liu Overlord. I’ve been undecided about that. I’ve watched clips but it looks boring. Also, I don’t know if it’s because I loved Love is Sweet so much, but BL with Lai Yi was giving me the heebie jeebies.
Lol don't you think that their kiss scene needs to improve a bit...it looks so awkward at times. Seeing that they…
Have you compared it to the FL cheek kiss in In a Class of her Own, or the leaning in pretend kissing in Legend of White Snake? I mean, compared to those this kiss can win awards. Actual lip to lip contact! Haha. Joking aside, it bummed me out too. What a waste of chemistry.
So, I didn’t realise I liked this show so much until I found myself bingeing it until 4am :o haha.
I loved Legend of Yun Xi, and I was always sad that there were so few scenes between the ML and FL because they were so cute together. I think ZZH does a brilliant job of looking at JJH with such intensity and adoration that it makes me melt! I’m so glad they’re just giving me oodles of OTP scenes. And the second couple are sweet too. Plot isn’t what we’re here for, so I’m not too critical of it. And they have built the side characters enough for me to not skip their scenes, so that’s a win for them! I fast forward if I’m really bored and I haven’t been doing that!
This is a one of a kind Cdrama, I can say this with absolute certainty; this is the best Chinese drama I have…
I watch c-drama and this is a stand out drama with the best chemistry and most grown up relationship I’ve seen (apart from TMoPB but that’s a costume drama). The leads are amazing actors. I’ve seen bossy male lead hundreds of times, but LYX has a maturity, calmness and charisma that I don’t see often. You genuinely believe he’s competent with a killer intellect.
So depressed I have to go back to statue kissing, idol actors and cheerful yet clumsy female leads :’(
I agree that, as of now, I feel like FR doesn't have a protagonist's "spark." Her personality *is* very cute,…
I’m on episode 7 and I don’t like the FL either. So far I’m getting ‘obnoxious, self-centred and stupid’ rather than ‘plucky and cute’.
Right now we’re at the bit where she’s begging Official Dong to save her master’s life and she just seems thick as two short planks. Why does she think an official will change his mind with no evidence just because she looks upset and does a whiny voice? It doesn’t show bravery , it’s annoying and bratty.
This whole show is also poorly cut and overly complicated. Seems a big rushed?Although that being said I really enjoy watching it, haha. It’s like a fan service to LYX fans and I’m very grateful as I loved the story and characters in that. And despite the FL annoying me, her chemistry with the ML is still there, the story is fast paced and I like the second couple. Face mask man is lame though and rather than giving out tortured genius kind-soul vibes just sort of creeps me out instead. And I can’t work out if he’s the Prince we saw a couple of episodes ago in palace. I just need that character chart someone said they made!
i obviously cant stand du lei i was tryna keep it neutral but he just annoys me and his facial expressions irk…
I think Kido Gao is a really good actor. He can make DL normal but cold at work, but also shows DL when he’s on edge and uncomfortable through his erratic expressions and reactions. Repressed unloved child is really evident. Kido Gao is normal in other shows, so the weird expressions are not his normal face!
I remember at the beginning LF told WY that he was best suited to director because he was willing to sacrifice himself.
At that point, WY was unsuited because he was ambitious, happy and had his blossoming relationship with QH. Now, WY has nothing to lose, so he’s best placed to be the director of Wulin and make the sacrifice LF was talking about. That’s why I think he will die. I mean, i haven’t watched properly since ep12 (waiting to see if happy ending and then I’ll binge) but I think he’s director now, or in charge anyway? If not, scrap my comment!
I just watched ep 36 proposal preview. OMG! He shouldn’t be so amazing or she’ll cry!
I only skimmed most recent episodes, but it looks like they argue and fight like a normal couple. They don’t try to break up if they disagree. I love them!

Don’t worry.
For everything you always have me.
Even though you are in prison, you cannot forget to eat.
I wonder if the box is from Duke An though.
