patiently waiting for the episode to start and hoping it'll have subs cause i finally can watch the premiere while…
I'm hoping for the subs up front, too. I'll be pissed if I have to watch this over the course of hours like I did with last weeks' episode. You can do this, GMMTV! Su Su!
hi again dllmzca!woke up in this Friday morning, i was very nervous and anxious for the finale haha..me wanna…
I'm pretty new, too, Andaman. I really only started watching series at the beginning of this year. What with the pandemic, not socialising, and living by myself, I've had a lot of free time!
Of the pillars, I've only seen the Pete/Kao stories. I gave up on SOTUS because I didn't like the hazing culture on the campus and also didn't like some of the homophobic tropes. I didn't watch the other 2 pillars because I saw things in their storyline descriptions that I didn't like: unrequited love, fake romance, and such. I can enjoy stories with unhappy endings and lots of drama and tension but it has to be really compelling after all these years of watching LGBTQ+ films with unhappy and heavy storylines.
I love the MaxTul stories, especially Together With Me and Manner of Death. MoD was my favourite series until this beauty of a story came along.
I'm OK with arriving late to the BL universe because I feel that I can avoid a lot of the mediocre or just plain bad shows that have been made. I'm even picky with new shows. There have been 3 other shows that have come out while 1000 Stars has been airing and I dropped all 3 of them, for varying reasons. I've noted in comments that some people will stick with a series with bad writing just because they like the lead character pairing. That's not enough for me...
Right. I've had my morning coffee, I've caught up on my correspondence, and I'm both eager and sad for this finale. think it's about 45 minutes away.
I just watched Ep 9 again, so that I can feel fresh for the finale. That happens at 7:30 in the morning, for me, so I'm off to bed. This series has been a gift. I've truly loved it. I wanted to take a moment and say thank you to all the people who post in this thread. With some shows, the discussions are combative and unpleasant. For this series, the people who post, by an overwhelming degree, are kindly and civil... even if we haven't always agreed. Participating with you during this show has only enhanced the experience, for me. Thank you and see you on the other side of the finale...
Can you give me a time stamp to the rape? Usually rape involves a lack of exchanging expressions of deep love…
I can agree that it wasn't written as a realistic example of drunkenness. He did stumble for a second or two before YJ picked him up. he was mubly, at times, but a bit clearer, at times. It's hard for me to look past that XS can barely let his eyes flicker open for a moment or two, though. As for the "You don't trust me?" line, I thought it was YJ who said that, not XS. Maybe I'll have to take one last look at it...
I just saw a post about you procrastinating. Go do what you have to do: lol! Thanks for the conversation. =)
PS: You wrote "There is a legitimate reason to be resistant to this trope because it's rooted in misogyny and homophobia, whereas in a Western drama that's almost never the case, at least not for decades."
That cuts to the core of why I dislike this trope being used.

Hi jpny. I just rewatched the scenes and this is what I saw:
While still sober, XS asks YJ who this person is that YJ loves and why he doesn't know about it. YJ doesn't disclose at that time, just replies”You don't know a lot of things.” (Understatement!)
After all the drinking, YJ tries to get XS up off his stool, but he's clearly sedated. XS is mumbling responses. XS is stumbling and YJ actually picks him up to carry him out of bar. YJ carries XS all the way to the bed in their room. XS appears to be heavily sedated or sleeping. YJ has to call XS' name a couple of times to get him to reply. XS does identify YJ by name when asked but he doesn't open his eyes and keeps turning his head to the side like he's sleeping or wanting to. As YJ elaborates on who his love is, XS still has his eyes closed and is still responding like he's half asleep. When YJ say “it's you” XS still doesn't open his eyes and still has his head turned. He doesn't open his eyes to say “that's great you really love me,” as he puts his arm up to YJ. XS really looks half asleep with inebriation, to me.”he chuckles still with eyes closed and “ I really love you too.” That in itself, is ambiguous at best, to me. YJ starts kissing XS on face and neck XS still isn't opening his eyes as VJ say his “I'll kiss you when your awake line” as it really ramps up.
I just don't see it as consensual, and without consent, I see sexual assault.
I'm not trying to say that I'm right and you're wrong. I'm just trying to explain why I see it as I do.
I'm also saying that I feel that YJ was a troubled enough character, before this point, and I don't really see the need for them to have pushed YJs character this far, other than to have a racy scene. If they show later that they're going to be serious about YJs problems, like him getting counselling and having a meaningful display of progress and reconciliation, then I can see how it might serve, but I still don't feel that it was necessary.
If something meaningful doesn't come from it, I feel it's just another example of the YAOI fascination with unhealthy power dynamics.
Again, we may not agree on the matter but I really appreciate the civility.
(Having issues with Depression doesn't help, in my case...)
