I loved it from beginning to end! It wasn't Youchun's top best, but it was close. He seemed so relaxed; and when he's enjoying what he's doing, it makes viewing an enjoyable experience also ;) Nam Goong Min's performance was the best. He should win an award!! Thanks for the quirky memories ;) !!
Loved everything from beginning to end... well, the ending was dramatic but seemed rushed. The characters are portrayed so well with fantastic actors! I want to see more dramas with these actors, writers, and directors -- they made a great team that seemed so real life in the 30s. The scenery reminded me of the Korean drama "Inspiring Generation" as it, too, was set in Shanghai during the same time period. Someone commented below that it was "boring"... For me, it wasn't boring at all... I recommend this to anyone PG13 to R as there are some scenes that aren't suitable for younger viewers. I gave it a straight 10/10...
Very disappointed in the 2 reviews I read above. Were they watching the same show I watched? It doesn't seem like it at all ...
I truly loved this drama... I loved its wonderful, quirky, out-of-the-box take on DID, an extremely debilitating dual personality syndrome. There's no way it could be compared to "Kill Me, Heal Me" because the type of DID was so totally different! I thought all of the acting was great. Watching Sung Joon portray the crazed bad-guy doctor made me realize he does a pretty good bad guy as well as a lover ;) Then there was amazing acting by Hyun Bin with the two different characters he portrayed! I'll remember the warmth, love, sadness, and hope of this drama for a long time ;) I recommend it highly...
Ditto to everyone else's "positive" comments! I truly loved this from beginning to end through the romance, tears, and laughter. Thanks to the writers, the producers/directors, and the cast for an outstanding job well done!! I recommend this highly!!
If this was completed in February, someone should have more of it subbed by now?!? I'm up to episode 13; but I…
I have watched some on Viki, the ones who sub on MyAsianTV, but when I found a site that subbed in English elsewhere, it was totally different but made more sense! It's truly hard to find a site that can be trusted to translate correctly rather than make up their own story line... Really sad because the Chinese dramas and movies seem to be so good!
hello~~~ I am from Taiwan and I am just searching the reviews of this drama and find lots of people feel disappointed…
You are probably right... I hope they found each other again. Scene where they saw each other on the street but didn't speak then left made me feel they might not get back together, though. Such a good drama, though! Truly enjoyed it with happiness and tears.
I don't understand why this drama is rated so low! What incredible actors who portrayed the writer's characters perfectly in a bitter sweet story line, in my opinion. The lead female was to be a naive, unworldly girl who had been raised in a protective, strict household. Of course, she would naturally be "whiny". The lead male had been raised by his grandmother who instilled good values in his life even though he was more worldly. I've seen him in several other dramas, but this is the best I've see him!! Amazing that they had been in love with each other for most of their lives... So many years wasted apart, though. I wish the writers would have re-written the last couple of episodes, though... I watch dramas because I don't want them to turn out like real life does. I want to see what's possible in a "fairy tale" way -- close to reality, but not too close ;) I recommend this drama highly... I rated it all 10...

I am so glad you shared that. At least knowing that the writer had second thoughts about the ending makes me feel better. Honestly, though, I stared at my computer screen in disbelief shaking my head to say No, this couldn't be the ending...
ShreenyaSharma, everything you said is what I would have said about this movie except you have said it much better than I could ever do! I would have been flagged for using too many "spoilers" as it was hard not to mention them! Jang Hyuk has now proven to me that he is more than just an actor, he totally immerses himself into his role. I even forgot that he was acting because his performance was so amazing! Jo Bo Ah ... what can I say except that her performance and portrayal of her crazy and insane character was over the top... This definitely isn't a movie for everyone. For me, I would rate it an R or no one under 18 should watch this due to the graphic sex scenes. However, if someone is old enough and can see nude scenes without changing the channel (I was tempted to stop watching... thank goodness the scenes weren't lengthy). Powerful movie!!!
Loved this from beginning to end, and what a happy ending it was!! ALL of the actors fit their character's parts perfectly -- I can't imagine anyone else portraying them any better! I wasn't too fond of the sound effects. That's why I gave this a 9.5 instead of a 10 mainly because of the sound effects... Lee Re, who played their daughter, was an amazing little actress. I hadn't seen her before, but I will keep my eyes open for her in the future. I totally recommend watching this!!
SO GOOD! I don't want it to end! Lead actors were amazing! Music had me singing along, and it fit right in with the story line! I especially loved the manga-like drawings! Don't think I've smiled so much and so long as I did from beginning to end, with a few tears interspersed here and there... I'll miss this drama and its characters so much. Everyone who loves to be loved would enjoy watching this!!!
If this was completed in February, someone should have more of it subbed by now?!? I'm up to episode 13; but I love this drama, the plot and the actors... Just wish it would get English subbed faster ;)
All of the actors in "A Different Kind of Pretty Man" were young, including Alen Fang! Such a great job he did in his first acting role! Hope to see him in many other roles!!
Wow ... Where has he been? Great actor in "A Different Kind of Pretty Man"!! With his talent and his looks, he should be taking on leading man roles... May Yeshua lead and guide him on the road of his life in the world's troubled days ahead ...
