how does it work with episodes so short and so many of them? is it episodic? or just a slice-of-life?
It is not episodic, it has a continuity. It is kind of hard to explain how it works, I advise watching the first few episodes. After all, they are pretty short.
I love the concept of this drama, but girl was the first episode a drag. I dislike most of the characters, the saving grace is the ghost girl. I will keep watching just because of her.
I actually would say the female lead's acting was much more convincing than the male lead's. He was like a robot. I know it fits the character, but there were moments he shouldn't have been so... robotic.
If anyone isn't sold on Amachan by the time they finish the fist episode, I suggest watching until episode 9 at least. It is such a simple yet beautiful thing.
Two episodes so far and it has been a fun ride. The main actress is gorgeous, overweight or not. Lucky woman! Also the main actor is stuff from heavens. He is so handsome.
I really enjoyed the show. It was so fluffy and sweet. I am giving it a 7.5/10, though, because while it was nice watching Wei Wei and Xiao Nai's relationship being developed, I felt like the last 1/3 of the show wasn't as entertaining to me, but mostly, the pointless transvestite shaming really put me off at times. They should have dropped it on the first time it was mentioned. Still, it was a fun ride.
This is such a step up from the anime adaptation. Well, for me, anyways. This feel more like the story of Kousei and Kaori than the anime, which spent a lot of episodes on developing side characters that weren't as interesting (like the other pianists). I am also glad the mother drama wasn't as exaggerated in this. It was still a big part of Kousei's character, but in the anime it got annoying reaaaaaallly quick.
Overall, this is the definitive version of Your Lie in April to me. The actors and actresses did a fantastic job and while some interesting things were cut from the anime and manga versions, the experience felt better me.
I did not enjoy the "ending". It was kind of expected, but Qi Lu's ex girlfriend coming back will just create more stupid conflicts in season 2 :T As if Wan Zi and the other girl weren't annoying enough. Lastly, that cliffhanger was total garbage. >.>
I did not find season 1 to be all that sexist. Some things were off, but the lead character was actually quite empowering. She gave no shits and lived her live the way she wanted (and could, being on her situation). I hope that doesn't change in season 2.
This thing between Er Xi and Cao Guang is such a mess. She is such a sweetie, I hope she doesn't end up heartbroken :(
Edit: The ending was beautiful.
