but isn't every family back in ancient china patriarchal? i don't really see the point of showing that she's not treated the "same" when everyone knows that women aren't seen as equal to men during this time period. other than this, i can agree that them showing her putting in work/effort during the night time was better than solely treating her character as comedic relief in terms of depth.

as much as i adore gong zishang, i felt like a lot of episode 7 was wasted on her and jin fan's storyline (granted the episode was also shorter than previous ones). i rather see more character development from gong ziyu and yun weishan or shangguan qian and gong shangjue. especially after seeing episode 8, we need more of the second couple. they're addicting to watch

did they call him tired master only or subtitles problem
it's a sub problem. they're calling him "juan ye" where juan is his name and ye (爷) is an honorary suffix used after a man's name. it's the ye in lao yeye (grandpa) or da ye (uncle/elderly male)
