Girl, you keep writing dissertations about āmedia literacyā while proving in real time that you have none š Nobody is confusing fiction with reality here except YOU. Youāre the one acting like people enjoying a fictional toxic relationship means theyāre out here endorsing crimes IRL. Thatās actually insane. And the āmurder has narrative logic but SA doesnātā take might genuinely be one of the dumbest things Iāve read today š So murder is acceptable storytelling because YOU personally approve the motive? Revenge and survival suddenly make it classy? Spare me. You also keep saying āIām focusing on the storyā while completely ignoring the actual genre conventions of dark BL and toxic fiction in general. These stories are literally built around obsession, control, possessiveness and morally fucked-up dynamics. Thatās the point. People watch for the intensity and drama, not because theyāre taking relationship advice from fictional psychos.
The fact that a large amount of people here is okay with the SA is highly alarmingšI also love a flawed character,…
Exactly! At this point theyāre more obsessed with these stories than the actual fans š¤£Like damn, if something makes you that miserable, just stop consuming it and move on. Meanwhile Iāll just sit back and watch the chaos unfold when LF kidnaps Xiao Chen š
Really? What makes you think so? Did they ever sound any more certain to you because to me they've been vague…
I've seriously turned into one of those Chinese fans in the comments who analyze every single movement and glance in actors' interviews 𤣠I blame XiZhao and their insane chemistry/aura for this! Full delulu mode on: hear me out. Go watch that statement again and pay attention to the way Yanzhao looks at Changxi when he says we're getting a second season. Doesn't it feel like he's warning him with his eyes? And then he immediately corrects himself and starts speaking more vaguely. At this point I'm convinced it's already a done deal, they're just not allowed to say anything yet š

Whoās actually dumb here? You came under a post where someone was literally calling toxic BLs homophobic instead of going after the person who made the actual insane take youāre whining about. Maybe read what people are actually saying before throwing a tantrum in the comments. And spare me the ānormal peopleā bullshit. People consume dark fiction all the time without supporting any of it in real life. People watch movies about serial killers, manipulators, abusers, cannibals, psychopaths... That doesnāt suddenly mean they want to go outside and start murdering people. Fiction is not a moral purity test, no matter how badly you want it to be. You keep acting like people enjoying a fictional character automatically means they condone every single thing that character does. Thatās such an embarrassingly childish way to consume fiction. āI still root for himā does not magically translate to āI support SA in real life,ā and the fact you genuinely canāt separate those two things says more about your media literacy than anyone elseās morals. And honestly, the most pretentious part is you acting like your personal moral line is some universal standard every ānormal personā has to follow. Itās fiction. Dark fiction at that. If you donāt have the stomach for it, stop consuming it instead of trying to psychoanalyze everyone who does. Nobody said SA is not serious in real life. What people ARE saying is that fictional content does not equal endorsement, and rational adults are capable of understanding that distinction. Clearly not everyone is.
The fact that a large amount of people here is okay with the SA is highly alarmingšI also love a flawed character,…
Because itās FICTION! Did you see a single comment saying he was right to rape him or praising him for it? Iām not going to waste my time explaining why itās wrong to lecture people about morality just because they like toxic shows with morally gray characters. Besides, if you were actually capable of understanding that, you wouldnāt have left a comment like this under this discussion in the first place. So many people in the comments of this post have already explained and analyzed it.

That what you get from all the comments you've read? That we are ok with SA? Whatās alarming is that some people like you canāt see beyond the tip of their own nose...
Sitting here with my popcorn, quietly admiring how passionately the worldās self-appointed moral authorities have gathered in the comments. Please, do continue šæ
They filmed s1 in like 20 days though, didn't they? I think once they start, it should go relatively smoothly.…
I'm translating mostly BLs on viki, and trust me 18 languages is a lot for a BL series! Most of them donāt even get translated into more than 10 languages. And okay, obviously the 5,000+ reviews are not the total number of views the series got, there are definitely more people who watched it and just never left a review, but still... I donāt know, I probably just miss them that much, but honestly this might have been the first time I actually felt happy after hearing their statements about season 2. It sounded genuinely pretty hopeful to me š„¹
Really? What makes you think so? Did they ever sound any more certain to you because to me they've been vague…
Honestly, what Yanzhao said sounded way more hopeful to me than the usual vague hints and nodding along. It really felt like they already have something in the works and the company just isnāt allowing them to talk about it openly yet. And then I saw all those fan videos on Rednote today with the boys dressed in very 90s style outfits walking around Bangkok... Of course it could just be for a photoshoot or a vlog or anything really, but my poor heart wants to believe that since theyāre there, and since they actually do go to Thailand in the novel, maybe theyāre filming a few scenes for the continuation of the series š„¹
Actors sound way less sure about season 2 on their Thailand tour than they did before. I thought it was a 50-50…
They never confirmed it in the first place. Itās still way too early for any official announcement. Theyāll definitely want to see how well they still sell as a CP first. And until contracts are at least signed, thereās no way theyāll be allowed to say much anyway. Like Yanzhao said today, (if the translations I saw were accurate), it all mostly depends on how much support the audience gives them and the series.
Wait a min. What's wrong with the audio. Did I downloaded the wrong version or what. Where can I see the episodes…
Thereās nothing wrong with the audio. The series is dubbed in Cantonese by voice actors while the actors themselves originally speak Mandarin. Try to look past it. It bothered all of us at first too, but the show is so good that after a couple of episodes youāll barely notice it anymore, or at least itāll stop bothering you.

Youāre right, the views on Viki are ridiculously low. Itās really frustrating to see other BL series that are nowhere near as good getting way more views in comparison. And itās a shame because this one doesnāt just have English subtitles, it has been translated into 18 languages. But like you said, what matters more is fan engagement with the CP and how well they sell. Even so, I think their appearance in Cannes will really help boost the international promotion of the series. Anyway, there is not much we can do except wait and keep promoting the series and the boys in every way we can. Also, at todayās promo event in Thailand, when they were asked about a second season they still gave pretty vague answers.

@RisaBliss Girls, the main thing, and what usually takes the most time in cases like this, is securing funding for filming and getting platforms interested in buying the distribution rights. Since all four actors are signed to the same agency, coordination and contracts are likely to be smoother. The good news is that theyāre still being promoted as a CP, which usually suggests the project still has commercial potential in the eyes of the company. If it wasnāt performing at all, they would probably scale that back. That said, this kind of promotion is also often used as a marketing strategy to test and maintain audience interest. Production timelines for Chinese dramas can be quite fast once everything is in place, especially for web dramas, but the delay is almost always on the financing and distribution side rather than the actual filming. Right now, it makes sense that theyāll be monitoring audience engagement and whether the fandom keeps growing or stabilizes, and based on that data theyāll decide whether a second season is worth pursuing. Realistically, they do have a good chance as long as they secure funding. I donāt think platforms will refuse to buy the rights, especially since it ranked number one in views on GagaOOLala for eight consecutive weeks.

If they really are planning to adapt the entire novel, then 3 seasons honestly sound more realistic than 2, considering the first season only covered about a third of the novel, and Iām talking only about the main story, not the extra chapters. As for the second couple, if they want more material, theyāll probably have to draw from the extra chapters too, since thatās where most of their story is shown. Ah, it would be so nice if this rumor turned out to be true š„¹
