yes, they were childhood sweethearts. she doesn’t really interact with him anymore (bc reasons that idk if you’d want me to spoil), but he still really loves and cares about her.
he hasn’t been featured as much in the episodes that are out yet so you can’t really get a sense of his personality much, but he should be more prominent in future episodes i believe.

i was confused by her telling him she’s happy he’s alive too, but i think i might know what she was referring to. the last time she saw him in mask form iirc was when she was under control and she stabbed him. she passed out and he left and when she woke up in the forest, he was already gone so she didn’t know what happened to him after that so she had no way to know if he ended up subcoming to his injuries after he left.

man i can’t get over just HOW GOOD this show is!!! i already thought i was gonna love it and my guess was right!!! not sure but it seems like it might be flying under the radar a bit compared to other airing shows and i really hope more people will give this a shot because it really is so good and it just keeps getting better and better every episode!! the story is interesting, the acting is great, the ost is amazing and i keep listening to it, the costumes and styling are beautiful, the chemistry between the characters (especially the leads!) is fantastic, i could go on and on. seriously, don’t skip this one.

i don’t know if you’re planning on watching it, but shadow love is airing on the 24th. it’s another story with a female general and cheng lei is the male lead there too! not the same obviously but as close as we can get :’) hopefully it’ll be just as good as this is!
