I'm a big fan of this series to this point but the first half of ep. 7 is an embarrassing mess of bad writing. See spoiler button below:

There are TWO seasons of this trash, and it has an 8/10 MDL rating.

Worst of all, one-half of the MC is a favorite actor of mine. I may have to remove him from my 30 Best actors list just for agreeing to be in this homophobic, gay-hating POS. Notice how, in the poster, this supposed long-term couple is seated 24 inches apart. God, what are these people thinking? Is this deliberately hateful and mocking of gay men?

The review is hysterical and genius at the same time, equal proportions of course, folded, not stirred.

I kept thinking of that one nasty food-porn "BL" in which two 40-ish queens lived together as lovers but never touched, let alone kissed. One went off to spend all holidays with his family right there in Tokyo, leaving his lover at home alone, during which times the left-behind would cook and the Julia Child portion of the show would commence.

This leaving his lover behind to attend family events such as Christmas, NY, I mean BIG events, was portrayed as no biggie, and the cook/bottom was coded as being reasonable and un-clingy in acquiescing to this arrangement. I think this POS has a high MDL rating of course. The LGs adore a show in which the gay lovers don't touch. The less they touch, the more passionate their love is presumed to be. :) Seriously.

Nice use of a spoiler button. In my opinion however, saying something as vague as "romance is very much there," which does not mention characters or what kind of romance, does not require use of a spoiler button.

Never hurts to err on the side of caution though. :)

Oh god, I couldn't care less about the lame actor Timotheeeeeeeeeeee Chalamet, so no, I don't even know about his "cheating" thing. Which is saying something right there: If it had really been that big of a story, there is little chance I would not have heard or read something about it. I don't seek out celebrity "news," but often come across it because I follow general news, politics, opinion, sports, and the arts.

Timothee Chalamet is, in my estimation, a transparent closet case. His is one of the silly situations in which the Western media STILL plays along if an actor presents as straight despite all evidence to the contrary, only because the actor has not specifically announced their gayness to the public. Reporting the obvious is considered out of bounds until the actor themselves does the "outing." lol Silliness.

So we have Timotheeeeeeeeeeee Chalamet, a performer of average talent, a nepo-baby, a closet case using a young woman as his beard, and an Audrey Hepburn look-alike, being rammed down our collective throat whether we want it or not.

The MDL synopsis does NOT indicate what you claim it does. Nor does the first episode get far enough along to show the development that you spoiled for everyone who hasn't read the manga and doesn't hang out 24/7 on X/IG/TT/YT like I hang out here on MDL.

Why are you quoting a manga synopsis on the page of a live-action adaptation of that manga, the synopsis of which goes out of its way NOT to include the words "unexpected friendship?" I'll tell you why: You are trying to muddy the waters, mislead those of us calling you on it, and because you are digging in your heels rather than admitting and correcting your misjudgement.

You wrote a huge spoiler and are too stubborn to correct your mistake. Well-done.

They're nuts. Are you referencing the Seungri/Burning Sun "scandal?" The netizens love that word "scandal" above all others. If I "stanned" a group other than Jonghyun-era SHINee it would be Big Bang.

Seungri is my profile pic right now just to piss off hysterical Seungri-haters; the type that continue to hold him responsibie for crimes he was never charged with, let alone convicted of. The type that HAAAAAAATE that he is going on with his life now that he's paid his fines, done his time, and been released. In true, self-righteous Korean netizen tradition, they feel he should live under a rock the rest of his life.

He didn't drug anyone..
He didn't "rape" anyone. (They use the word "rape" so loosely it means nothing.)
He didn't take or share photos of anyone being drugged or raped.

He DID:
Make a few comments in a group chat where another guy had posted pics of what appeared to be a dude having sex with an unresponsive female. (Like millions of other Korean men do every night.)
Fail to report said photo-sharing to the police.
Break some laws regarding the legal distinction between his eating establishment being a restaurant or a club for tax purposes.
Break a couple other food service regulations for which he was held liable as owner of said restaurant.
The last two offenses are extremely minor and for anyone else would have resulted in a small fine. Instead, the prosecution tried to turn them into cases of embezzlement.

Seungri DENIED:
Setting up sexual liaisons between potential investors and PROSTITUTES. (These were not innocent, drugged club-goers; these were professional prostitutes doing a job.)
All rape or sexual assault charges.
All charges of sending drugged/drunk women to the back rooms of Burning Sun to be raped.
He only, finally pleaded guilty to those charges as part of a plea deal to reduce his sentence by half to 18 months in prison.
(THAT is how prosecutors all over the world force defendants into pleading guilty to things they never did. I would do the same if it meant getting out of prison in half the time.)

Anyway, the Korean legal system is even MORE f**ked up than the American legal system, which is saying a lot. And the drug hysteria is inexplicable except as an easy way for law enforcement to make names for themselves off famous people, and for netizens to make themselves feel righteous and holy in comparison.

However, your request will be ignored. Displaying their knowledge of the source material, and what they glean from their ongoing stalking of series and actors on IG, X, TikTok, and Youtube is far more important to the fangirls than respecting the viewing experience of other Bl watchers.

I was focusing on the bullies' screeching, shrieking, leaping about like chimps on acid, just crazy-ass, not-human type behavior. I eventually decided this had more to do with matching the tone of the Manga than with trying to emulate realistic human behavior, even among really mean bullies.

I pay attention to ALL details, which is why lazy writing and repetition of cliches/tropes annoys me. I don't generally cut a show slack just because it's a BL. This is why i watch almost zero BLs out of Thailand.

Oh yea, the K-poppers are the WORST of the netizens. They believe (in their sick little heads) that they have personal relationships with their idols and that those idols owe THEM for their fame and success. In return, the netizens demand outrageous perfection in idol's personal lives and behaviors that are none of their f**king business. Of course, this is largely the production companies' fault for encouraging this pscyho fantasy connection. It has been the death of numerous Kpop idols hounded to suicide on the Internet.

I don't see any of that improving any time soon because the industry makes so much $$$ off this crazy system, that what's a suicide every now an d then, right?

I'm a Jonghuun-era SHINee fan, nothing more. The netizens drove Jonghyun to kill himself too.

I was also raised as a Lutheran and went to parochial school for eight years, so there's that. But my church and school were not ones that emphasized any level of German language instruction.

I'm sure I could come up with many more if I thought long enough. I know a lot of German Christmas Carols by rote without knowing the specific meaning of individual words. We listened to the Vienna Boys Choir and other German albums at Christmas time.

My dad was a radio operator on the crew of a B-17 bomber which flew many missions over Germany late in WW2. His plane was shot down and he parachuted to the ground where he was taken captive and spent 18 months in a Nazi POW camp. He was 19. Being German by heritage and American by birth, both sides of my extended family had an interesting love/hate relationship with Germany.

We grew up learning a lot about the European theatre of WW2, and watching a LOT of WW2 movies and documentaries. I would love to visit Germany before I croak. Also Italy for the art/architecture/Roman history.

Not my problem you're too dense to catch that a ridiculous story about Thai writers taking over and completely replacing the Taiwanese writing team of a Taiwanese BL might just be...a joke. lol Dumb**s.

I haven't seen it "promoted" as anything, anywhere, nor have a LOT of the people who will come here knowing nothing other than what they've seen on the screen in the first episode, or nothing at all. Most people who see this will NOT have read the Manga. It was recommended to me by an MDL friend, and that is the extent of what I knew. Unlike you, he didn't think it kind to tell me ahead of time what was going to happen; you know, SPOIL it for me.

Is it a surprise to you that many people view series and films WITHOUT first seeing/hearing about/reading about anything at all having to do with the source material? Is that a new concept for you? Did you know many adaptations make huge changes from the source material?

What is it with you MDLers who assume everyone has read the Manga or the Manhwa or whatever the source material, or worse, don't care whether they have or not, and insist on braying your spoilers from the source all over threads like this? Does doing so make you feel knowledgeable and ahead of the curve; a kind of showing off?

It's a massive spoiler. At the end of episode 1, that's exactly where I thought the leads were headed. Now you've ruined that perception for me. I'd rather have had that come as a result of watching the show, not from someone in comments eager to spill the beans.

My favorite character so far is the deceased dad with the 1980s gang-style-big-hairdo in the shrine photo. :D

Waiting ten weeks for ten 25-minute episodes is exhausting. Plus, this seems to be pretty engrossing, so that 25 minutes flew by like 10 minutes. That's obviously a good sign, but not when I now have to wait seven days for the next 10 minutes.

One complaint, even though this wig is more convincing than most, I have seen wigs that look 100% real in shows, and they should have spent the few hundred $$$ extra for wig/talented makeup person to make it look authentic.

I found the bullies to be extremely over-the-top; insane, maniacal caricatures, not actual bullies, to the point I didn't feel bad for Futoshi because i couldn't take them seriously. However, as the episode progressed I realized the aesthetic of the entire show will be over-the-top, a kind of magical realism, so maybe it will all work together for me in the end.

In what world do you wear a female-gendered top below your female-coded hairdo, put on lipstick in front of a traffic mirror on a public street, and then act surprised when two freaky dudes try to accost you? lol

I just added these to my PTW list. I'm extra-stoked because in checking out their MDL pages I saw a lot of fave Korean actors of mine, along with solid ratings. I put a LOT more stock in MDL ratings for movies than for BL, which I watch a great deal of. The BL crowd is full of up-and-down-voting fangirls who do their utmost to influence the perception of their pet shows, as well as the ones they hate for some perceived political incorrectness or an actor's "scandal," whatever; anything will do.

I'm betting I'll run into people like that in these movies.

In BL World, the lower the MDL rating the better the show. :)
