As I've made clear, I enjoyed 1-6 immensely and was ready to include it on my Best 30 BLs list. Then the last two episodes wrecked everything that went before. Those who say otherwise are deliberately looking the other way. There were countless implausibles, lame acting, and lame writing in 7 & 8.

This 8.1 rating is absurdly high. I suspect an MDL sub-demographic of fujoshis (in the original meaning of the word), who don't mind some messed-up sex between two dudes along with a grungy setting, are up-voting this thing like crazy, completely ignoring all the lame aspects of the last two episodes, including writing, acting, and direction. The first six episodes were grand. I was ready to add it to my best 30 bls list. Then episodes 7 & 8 happened.

To counteract the fangirl/fujoshi up-rating, I shall have to apply my own corrective in the form of a down-rating of 1/10.

You missed part of the story's point: Maya was raised in a horrendous, abusive situation also. People aren't born as evil motherfuckers; they are MADE over into that.

Because it was. Haoran seemed listless/unfocused, and Chihiro's acting was...well, lets just say he could have used a few more takes to get it right. Like the very end, when he looked right into the camera, which was supposed to be Haoran's eyes, he seemed goofy, stiff, unnatural.

The ending is absurd and I suspect you know it.
