There are a thousand secure ways for famous people to make donations anonymously. I know this because two of my clients are non-profits that have received donations from well-known people. No one will ever know about those donations because they were done quietly, in such a way that keeps identifying information under wraps. This is the OPPOSITE of what your beloved IU did, because the donations are, for her, as much a PR opportunity as a tax write-off opportunity.
So, please, IU, give LOTS of money to charity! Just do it privately and anonymously if you don't want to be accused of doing it for publicity.

I live in the US, too. I work in PR/Mktg. Two of my clients are non-profits. I know all about charitable giving, which is how I know there are many ways for even very famous people to give, and give generously, without anyone ever knowing about it.
