Speaking only for myself of course, this feels, and looks, and sounds like big-budget torture porn, which is not my thing. I'm OK with a certain level and type of violence in movies, but this one's reveling in the gross-out, ultra-graphic, blood, gore, and body fluid-type violence too much for me. Even when it's a despicable scumbag being tortured, these acts are still horrible things to watch.
Also, I'm sick of seeing women being tortured, raped, and murdered in ultra-graphic, realistic, and sexualized ways in this type of film. Again, those who want to see that are perfectly welcome to do so. I do not believe in censorship of any kind. But I can't stomach the extremity of this shit.
What does it say about Korean/Japanese/American culture, that it is almost ALWAYS women being degraded, tortured, raped and murdered in our films? When are we going to see some handsome, young men being put through that? Well, I suppose the main reason is that men commit almost all the violent crime, here in the U.S. and around the world. Thus, a film depicting the type of sexual violence we so often see in films like "ISTD," against MEN, would be portraying a very rare thing.
BUT, I have been more and more shocked by the fact of how many Korean and Japanese films feature this stuff as its central premise. I was never a crime-thriller fan of Hollywood films, but the style and deeply rich characterizations of Japanese and Korean films in particular, have brought me around to where many movies in that genre are among my favorites. However, this thing with young women and girls constantly being raped and murdered in graphic detail gets me to my gut.
I'm also tired of the stupid trope by which in the middle of strings of highly-publicized, serial rapes and murders, we still have unaccompanied women and girls walking around at night ALONE, as if there isn't any reason at all for caution. "Memories of Murder" had the same, ridiculous plot contrivance. In the real world, the police and local government would be warning women and girls to go nowhere at night, and never alone, for god's sake.
But in movies like this, they're out standing at rural bus stops ALONE, waiting to be raped and murdered because, I guess, they don't own a television, radio, cellphone, or computer by which they'd know there's a serial killer on the loose. Absurd.
Oh, and how is the cop in ISTD not responsible for every vile act the murderer perpetrates after he set him free, even if the victim wasn't ultimately raped or murdered? They were still massively traumatized.
Lee Byung Hun is one of my favorite Korean actors, but I'll look for him in something else.
how can you be so loud and so wrong? this might come as as a shock to you but some people different tastes and…
Oh kiyois, I'm utterly devastated by your blistering message. However shall I make it through the night?
Is it really true that people have different "tastes?" I did not know that. Wow, thank you so much. I feel like a whole new person.
OK, sarcasm aside, everything in my comment is MY opinion and reflects MY tastes because well, gosh, I wrote it. I'm sure you're one of those "now this is just my opinion, but..." people, but I am not among your tribe. The fact that I express an opinion means, obviously, it IS my opinion. There's no reason to keep repeating that inane qualifier.
Moving on, can you point out in my comment where I said no one else could have tastes or opinions different from mine? No you can't point that out because I didn't say it. I expressed amazement that anyone thinks Soga is hot. So what? I still feel amazed, and those people still think he's hot.
You're reading shit I didn't say into what I wrote, and then reacting to that instead of my actual meaning. So, clearly, you are the one with a "critical thinking skills" problem. You are also overly, comically sensitive. "Are you people blind?" is apparently a question of such ferocious offense to you, that you felt challenged to your bones.
Write me back. I feel like toying with one of your type tonight.
Because it's not very good. If the lead wasn't so blindingly handsome, the viewership would drop by 2/3.
Almost one-third of its total run-time has already aired. If a show can't show itself to be worth one's while 33% of the way in, then there is a problem.
well you dont have to watch it if you hate it so much?😂
What part of "Good thing Sakae is so gorgeous, and his side-kick Tatsuta is so goofy/funny, or I wouldn't be able to keep watching this...thing." don't you understand?
Dear god, yet another MISUNDERSTANDING plot from Japan this week.
Good thing Sakae is so gorgeous, and his side-kick Tatsuta is so goofy/funny, or I wouldn't be able to keep watching this...thing. Gosh, a straight-girl-on-gay-lead crush; how original. Also, ZERO chemistry between Sakae and Soga. Like, none. I get that people want there to be but no, there isn't any. And the script has given us NO reason for Sakae's alleged attraction to Soga.
Also...it's weird to read commenters trying to convince themselves that Soga is "hot." Are you people blind? He's not ugly, but...HOT? Tatsuta is cuter than Soga.
I think they highlighted sahara and nekoto too much and their backstory hit way harder... it makes u feel for…
I didn't feel for them at all because I've seen this exact same plot in a hundred other BLs. "To prevent you being hurt, I will now hurt you" is one of the all-time, most repeated BL tropes, and at this point any writer who uses it is just freaking lazy.
It's simply boring. There are certainly better ways to spend free time.
It is boring now, but the two leads are incredibly handsome/cute, and Toki's caramel-colored skin is beautiful. I can put up with one more episode, even if that's all it amounts to.
How did a show that started out so unique, funny, and crazy become so dull and monotonous? It went from a wild, frenetic, slapstick, J-comedy with a zany MC to a dull, overwrought, monotonous K-Drama featuring stagy, boring dialogue between not-so-believable ex-lovers.
Plus, the last two eps have centered on the ancient, BL stand-by trope/plot of "To prevent you from being horribly hurt, I will hurt you horribly first!" bullshit. lol
Not to worry though, Toki is so exceedingly hot and cute and crazy, and Sensei is so breathtakingly handsome and tall and spermy, that I don't care. I can just look at them for one more episode and be OK with it all. Toki's butterscotch-candy skin alone is worth 24 minutes once a week. I so badly want to lick him.
It is too bad that what could have been something really special fizzled out in the end.
I agree, at this point. It certainly did not start out boring though. However, the two leads are so freaking hot that I enjoy looking at them, and there's only one ep left, so I'm here to the bitter end. :)
