This should not have been a romance. It detracts with what would have been a great character slice of life drama…
You're imposing your preconceptions/expectations on the show instead of evaluating what's on the screen for what it is.
The script/plot has laid out in flashing lights what in him she is attracted to. YOU don't find him attractive, which is fine, but you're letting your opinion blind you to what SHE sees in him. Hell, she has spelled it out in words several times, most recently to her mother in this episode. "I feel safe with him," ring a bell? "I see him bounce back from great defeats and keep trying. This inspires me to do the same," or words to that effect, ring a bell?
Sure, the two of them are assumed to "like" each other, and now everyone knows it. But so far, that's as far as it has gone. They hardly even touch, and there certainly has been no kiss, nor anything close. To this point, they seem much more soulmate/friends than soulmate/lovers. So far, theirs is a grade school romance, where kids say they're going together, and giggle and exchange glances, and that's as far as it goes.
You don't like him as your BF. Eun A feels differently.
This was her episode, all the way. I love how her personality has been revealed, as layer by layer has peeled away over these eight episodes so far. At the beginning, I took her for a humorless, spiteful scold, but little by little, her intellect, loyalty, and even kindness have met the light of day. And in this episode, even some hot funky mama shit - her drunken dance of freedom at her restaurant bar near the end of this episode was a joy to behold - came leaping into the light! :D
I took a look at his bio again, and was surprised to see that "The King's Warden" is only PJH's second movie, as opposed to drama, so I'm guessing that easily makes him eligible as a Best New Actor in films. :)
Surely, he will now be flooded with movie offers. He was especially good in "Weak Hero Class," which I thought was phenomenal. The sequel was cringe, though, but that was the fault of the screenplay, not PJH's acting, which was fine. Some of the fight scenes were iffy, but that's the fight coordinator's fault. Damn thing should not have been made, I guess. :P

Absolutely right! :) I have to add that all along, I have felt his wife DOES support him, in a very direct/honest/dry way. She wouldn't be so upfront about what he needs to do to succeed if she didn't care about him and want him to succeed. That's my take, anyway.
The unapologetic touches of magical realism throughout this screenplay are wonderful.
Those bits are hilarious. Even better when his wife swats the bullets away as if they were flies, yet it seems she doesn't really see them; the bullets and the swatting both being visual expressions of their feelings in the moment.

Oh my gosh, I just realized he played Yoo Ah In's hunchback little father in "Punch!" That is where I first saw him. He made a huge impression on me. :)
If you haven't seen Punch!, I highly recommend it.

Actually, I hope that will be the case. Very few people are truly all bad, maybe no one. It's a writer's easy way out: present a VILLAIN for us all to hate. That would be the opposite of this writer's approach.
