Human Grim Reapers to the Rescue
So Mun grew up carrying immense guilt from a car crash when he was a kid, a crash that took the lives of his parents and his leg mobility. His fate changes when a higher being goes into his body that grants him superpowers. He later learns that the being is one of the people of Yung, a kind of governing body for evil spirits. Yung people partners with human beings called Counters to capture escaped evil spirits that possess humans. There are 5 Counters in Jungjin where So Mun live, 1 died during an operation and his Yung partner was the one who went into So Won upon his demise. So Won accepts the job offer as a Counter after lengthy deliberation, and starts maneouevring his life as a high school student battling bullying and a Counter who hunts down evil spirits to ensure the safety of the world.
For an action fantasy drama, this show sure has a lot of bawling going on. The group of counters bawl their eyes out everytime any of them is injured from the fights, and this happens on almost every single battle. The 4 other Counters, Do Hana, Ga Motak, Chu Mae-ok and Chairman Choi Jangmul are definitely unique group of people with very different personalities. Despite Do and Ga’s reluctance in accepting a high schooler as one of their own, they were passionate enough to train him to control his powers.
I liked the ML for his innocence and imperfection, a sensible role for a yet to mature teenager wielding a superpower that could save the world. But i gotta sayy favourite character is definitely his best friends Im Juyeon and Kim Ungmin, cuz they totally gives off BFF vibe who respects ML despite his secretive acts that he do. Definitely two of the best people ML could ask for for a family.
The action is typical for a superhero show. Lots of destruction wherever they have the fights at. The healing superpower of Aunty Chu is kinda disappointing though. She gets drained every single time, too much bloody noses that made the powers look unimpressive.
It’s an okay show. Good storyline and great action. Just not quite memorable, very easy to move on from. Probably because I’ve seen too much of korean superhero shows that made this one look kinda ordinary.
