I think that the contrast between the ML and FL's story is due to the script writing. The goal for Guan Cen is his quest to discover the fate of his missing sister so we can understand his actions. Lu Yizhen's motivation is less clear to us. She started by fighting with the ML then being given chances to investigate. Guan Cen often lets her take the lead or often asks her opinion. And their romance is given a back seat. Revenge against the smiling man, proving herself as a female constable, or becoming an inspector, could have been used, but perhaps would have diluted the story.

I suspect that ZY comes across as a younger sister and SY comes across as an older sister. I like both.

Sorry, but she suspected way before that. Ep. 7 28:30. When she raised her hand before his face, her fingers mimicked showing the Man in Black's eye behind the mask. And earlier in ep. 4, 37:00 she allowed Jin'an to drink blood from the cut in her neck. In ep. 2 25:00 the Man in Black reveals that he knew that she was going back to the Changfeng Army camp meaning that he is probably someone in the camp and then he drinks her blood. She makes the connection but waits to discern his intentions.

The pistols used in the last gunfight are Browning/Inglis Hi-Power, (Guan Cen) Walther PPK (Lu Yizhien) and Mauser C96 - box magazine before the trigger - (Bad guys)

Seems another souls switching is in order. But perhaps now that the two know the drill, will exploit it to their advantage.

They tease that his sister may be alive. He has not and cannot make any further progress until Lu Yizhen is forced from the protective bubble that her Family and friend/friends(?) have kept her in. So the leaks to the news reporter was a calculated risk. He also did not expect that the killer would stake out the factory. Would that kidnapper/killer have found her had her cover not been blown? Maybe, maybe not. At this stage in the drama their relationship has to be confrontational, for drama's sake. In ep. 16, (17:46) we see the despair, the sadness that he suppresses in his heart for not being able help, to find and rescue his sister.

Ep. 14. Fate is so random.

Ep. 16 20:00 He overhears Guan Cen and Lu Yizhen's conversation while sitting side by side (begins at18:00) where the Guan Cen reveals the shadow in his heart and she says that she will wait for daylight with him. I think that Du and Ding may be the second couple.

I also wondered why they spent time showing Xiaoman trying to confess to Yu Yu. I guess the signs were there. The closeness of Xiaoman and Dr. Gu and where they spent so much time talking about him. Her ex looking much older (sugar daddy?) I think that she was also there to show the other side where things didn't work out. So we had the parting scene.
I think that at the BBQ scenes, that Yu Yu hadn't made the conscious or subconscious step to have intimacy like a kiss. I know how that feels and the tension is rather strong.

You mean Yingxiang, Chu Zhao's maid/bodyguard? He can't have any sort of happy ending so she had to die. But her death was regrettable.

A good premise marred by uneven writing. The Female lead, rather than dumbing her down, perhaps the drama should have kept kept her as a dangerous powerful vengeful demon who needed to be reconciled with humanity, with help of the ML. Perhaps the City Lord, his Father should have kept being evil. And the cut with the two in modern scenes might have been the last scene, showing their future.
