OK. In general, I'm not the biggest fan of the female lead actress so I wasn't going to watch this but I'm pretty glad I did. I really only have one like and dislike for this drama and I feel like they kind of cancel each other out lol. But at the end I still rated 6 stars because I think this drama really pushed me when it came to discomfort with the lack of consent in the drama overall.
Liked:
- Ok so I really liked how the female lead was very head strong and knew what she wanted. Even though at times she could be a little daft or not as perceptive as the other characters, I did think she was very good at standing her ground for most of the drama. I think also all the female characters were pretty great and were portrayed as independent, strong women, which I really loved. They were smart, funny, strong, witty, and they really stood by each other. The female on female fighting/hate was not as strong in this drama as other ones. I really appreciate that because I think it makes no sense for females to be pitted against each other!
Disliked:
- Ok so I know that many Asian dramas, if not ALL of them, really don't portray consent well at all. A really common feature in Asian dramas is the way the male characters are always force kissing the female characters. It kind of really happens in all the dramas and it's always my biggest qualm with Asian dramas! That being said, I think THIS ONE really really pushes it. Like I was constantly really really uncomfortable with how the male lead forced the female lead into situations in which he did not obtain her consent and then somehow it was all okay and she owed him afterwards (watch and you'll know what I mean). Like HELLO?????? that is WRONG????? like I get that you're allergic to everyone but her, but that doesn't mean you can constantly force kiss her ???
Anyways, as I said before, Asian dramas do this a lot, but this one just really was not cool for me. It just felt like it overdid it.
Meh.
