I'm the type of person who only watches dramas with happy endings. I don't always know exactly how they end, but…
exactly! that's what I'm saying, I'm all for happy endings but since they made him vanished till the very last few minutes they might've as well kept him dead! at least that would've been a logical proper ending for him and I could've respected the writers for making a bold choice for his fate.
They had to fake his death so he could go out of the palace to cure his poison. Besides, the physicians all predicted…
But that doesn't make any sense! there was really no need for him to "die according to the prediction" in order to go seek medicine! and live in peace as "male concubine" without anyone recognizing him as the late crown prince? not to mention how ridiculous the whole notion of empress dowager having a male concubine actually is lol Putting all the responsibility of the throne on his infant child? they literally reduced ml to nothing at the end! I miss a good series like fated hearts with proper leads and characters these days ngl.
And they literally depicted the whole thing as that everyone including fl thought he was dead! no hint at the fact they were in on it with each other! I can talk about plot holes for this series to no end!
I struggled to get through the last 7 episodes. Overall, I didn't really see much development in this drama. I…
"I also didn't understand the point of the ML's "disappearance" in the last 4 episodes."
Exactly! wth was that? at least i was respecting them for making a brave choice to ending him before the series finale... but making him come back at the last few minutes with no reasoning behind it??
I gave it 7.5... and that's only because it was overall well executed, well acted, at times quite funny and overall an enjoyable watch. but that whole "disappearance" plot left a bad taste and a pretty big plot hole for me.
I liked this drama overall and enjoyed it! but I think I would've rated more highly if not for the last few minutes!
I mean not giving any ground as to why, how, for what purpose or even the the logistics of afterwards! not even in the extra episode were they ever explained.
The rating kinda worries me but the number of raters is less than 500 so I cant make up my mind... on the other hand there a lot of 10 ratings in the reviews but I checked some of the reviewers and they are hardcore Yang Zi fans so that's not really objective either.
Now I consider myself a Yang Zi fan but only wanna watch if the script and quality of production is good
Ok what an absolute waste of a strong cast for a drama!
This was terrible and boring all the way... got sleepy multiple times during episodes, so many typical tropes packed in it, and in each case you know exactly what's gonna happen... they magically find a clue, run and find the one they were looking for to be dead or die in front of them!
And quite frankly I've liked and enjoyed both leads of this drama in other dramas so it's a shock how lackluster they come off here! and I feel they should've just skipped the romance... no chemistry and awkward every time the romance parts would come up.
Oh and the post-credit!!! I mean please tell me there is not gonna be another season of this, especially with the supposed antagonist in the post-credit ^^'
I don’t think the novel ending would have passed censorship, so the drama had to make changes.
Yeah that's what I assume the issue is as well, but I'm saying according the drama's logic from what I saw is that they're living an entire life in the novel's world so by the time he's back his consciousness would be that of a middle aged man (or maybe that's the issue since when he get's back she would have the consciousness of a teenage girl irw?)! and if they're gonna be find issue with that they should also find issue with the premise of him transmigrating in as a teenager to begin with as well tbh!
Or maybe this becomes problematic when it's shown in the modern setting for the Chinese censorship... since from what I remember the age issue would somewhat be present in the love like galaxy drama as well, or maybe I'm misremembering things.

Honestly I don't see why not! I understand what you mean but the whole point is that they're living a lifetime in the novel's world so the whole so called issue should be nulled. and I mean if they're gonna find a problem with that then the whole setting of the show would be problematic!
I would've agreed with the current rating if they had given us the novel ending mentioned in the comments for the drama too since that's what I was thinking would be the best ending and was hoping for it from the midpoint of the series without even knowing the novel's ending.
But the series' ending still implies it too so still a good series and an enjoyable watch, a solid 8 for me!
True, although he was crazy he was also crazy in love with the princess but he had to be punished for evilness
He was crazy and insane on many levels and you could argue he deserved much worse than what he got but that's why I think he was quite interesting cause despite all that, he gradually made me on some level like him ^^'
Finally finished it and gotta say somehow that emperor Jingyan turned out to be the most interesting character beside the leads! His character had way more depth than what anyone would've expected from his initial appearances, and gotta say the actor playing him really did him justice.
The General in Shadow love was convincing in attitude. Not the other one.In this drama, FL is also convincing,…
well ofc it's not flawless but after seeing some of the recent series... this is truly a treat. and I'm quite surprised cause I never thought Li Qin would a suitable actress for a general role ^^'
And I agree! the treatment was of ML in regards to FL has been handled quite well! Idk if anyone has been critical and saying he's cruel for doing that but quite frankly I think she's had it easy lol I don't think her being a woman is any excuse to spare an enemy general, I mean let's face it she literally shot him and is believed to be responsible for their defeat and death of comrades. And btw still they haven't made the FL lose out even with that bit of torture since she got even with him.
But the thing that was cleverly mentioned and can justify how his subordinates becoming less hostile towards her is the possibility that her shooting him actually saved his men.
And what Xia Jingshi wanted as ending for them I don't think it was any secret to him, he probably wants the same ending for them lol

Idk man! Song Yi is probably my favorite actress and she did a nice job portraying her character but she needed saving all the time... and her storyline it just had sth missing for me.... but then again my main problem with that show was the fantasy setting and the ML with their over the top romantic interactions which got a bit annoying at some point. quite frankly the highlight of the show was when the ML regained his memory and for me that highlight lasted about 2 eps lmao
I really love the tone, seriousness, quality, storyline here much more... and also the acting and this might sound weird but the voices of the main leads here! it just fits their roles much better haha
Finally a female general is done right! at least compared to shadow love and LotFG.
And the tone is serious while maintaining a light and fun atmosphere as well! so far the interactions between leads have been quite natural and easy to watch! in the other two shows I had a lot of moments fast forwarding the corny dumb over the top repetitive interactions between the leads
Ok I have lost all hope for MDL ratings at this point! so many average and boring xianxia dramas have 8.5+ ratings on here and this is only 8.2 till now!
This is without a doubt the best xianxia I've ever seen! I mean this is the first time I actually understand or care about the stages of cultivation lol The pacing and plot progression is great, believable character development, even the villains have proper personalities, the relationships are not forced, great fight scenes, likable characters are not safe! so many people don't like that ml and fl don't have much scenes together so far, but I actually love it since it's actually better not to force it and make them share scenes at the cost of plotline. The few scenes they've been in together has been quite great in my opinion.

I feel like if it was condensed to 26 eps it would've been "great" instead of just "good".
