Hmm you had me agreeing right up until the question, because I believe XL wanted to ask "Do you want to marry/be…
This part here is where our views are fundamentally different:

"I have always thought that Xiangliu had always been tempted to be an option for Xiaoyao but he never could take the first step and put himself into the ring, because he thought he would lose. This proud guy seemed to me that he has a mindset that he wants her love, not only her companionship? He was not going to settle to be only friends."

1) "Xiangliu had always been tempted to be an option for Xiaoyao". No. It's the complete opposite. He never wanted to be an option for Xiao Yao even though he was because he knew he couldn't fulfill her requirements of never abandoning her. Hence all his pushing her away and hiding everything behind the guise of "transactions". She was the one that had to be convinced he shouldn't be an option.

2) "he wants her love, not only her companionship? He was not going to settle to be only friends." No. He already had her love, they were never just friends. The Lovers Bugs are proof of that. Also, the Lovers Bugs were never a disadvantage. It was his way of knowing she loved him too, no matter how much she tried to lie to herself.

3) "The couple bug connection he had with Xiaoyao was actually to his disadvantage". See the point above. The bugs never turned on any of them. So whatever she felt for Jing never threatened the bugs.

4) "It just never got to the point where he would even consider leaving his foster father, because it never came close enough for him to think he would be an option." Again, it's the complete opposite. He was absolutely an option, that's why he never wanted her to know everything he did and he erased every memory she had of him. Because he was the one option she could never have since he would never be able to leave his foster father.

I agree with Haveninmuse. He knew how much of an option he was, how much he couldn't bear to be an option considering his situation, but he also wanted to know her answer.

Yeah, and none of it works because Xiang Liu remains being the man, the myth, the GOAT.

There was some brief fandom scuffle on weibo yesterday which thrown this topic up - whether Xiangliu's 大义…
My main thoughts on this is that Xiang Liu fans are trying to defend themselves from the allegations that Xiang Liu's is a villain. Another distortion going on for reasons some of us are very well-aware of. That part of the discussion should have been brought here as well because I also have many thoughts on it.

Long story short, this is totally related to a fandom war. He ain't rebellious, Chenrong's remnant army is a Resistance army and not a rebel army (invaded people don't rebel, they resist), and Tong Hua herself has made it clear that Xiang Liu is honorable, righteous, and loyal.

Why are people calling a resistance army a rebel army?I guess if you think the Xiyan Empire is the good guys,…
Yeah the premise is all wrong. They're resisting, not rebelling. Xiyan has always been the invader.

Yeah, you joined this party late but already understood how everything works. Xiao Yao is such a messed up character…
I'm always talking about XL so that helps with the confusion 😹

LOL the Viki timed comments were such a crazy battleground. I may have contributed to the mean Jing comments but only because it ain't a secret to anyone to whom my heart belongs 🤣🤣🤣

Homie, you better stick to it because it's far from simple 😭 we have been discussing this for a whole year and the only consensus is that there will not be enough Kleenex boxes in the world for what the ending will bring.

TBH, in my opinion, the only flaw in XL is wanting to try to bring those two together :D I don't really care about them, nor the bish, so that endgame thing means nothing to me. The point is that they will get together in the end and it's such a cringe fest, because in the novel they don't even have a wedding night. Xiao Yao was busy getting drunk after she finds out XL died LOL! That's one of the best parts of the story, but it was obviously cut out because there's no justice in the world and we can't have nice things :)

P.S.: Interesting that you say the "bad guys win the war anyway". Who do you consider the bad guys? I for one think Xiang Liu's remnant resistance army is far from being the bad guys, or terrorists as they're usually called. So yeah, you got a point there.

Initially, when I first joined here in August 2023, there were plenty of nasty comments aimed at people who were team XL. We have been called names, we have been threatened and all sorts of "nice things" from the supposedly "good guy" team. So fast forward to 2024, and now that more people are aware of the novel, the drama, the acting, and a myriad of other factors, the overwhelming support is for XL and deservedly so, just as many of us have figured out way back when. Some since 2013, when the novel came out, and some in 2023, when the drama came out.

Oh, but there's one crucial thing. Some nastiness has spilled into real-life too (the actors and so on), so that sort of gets people riled up. Because it's not cool to use those dishonest tactics to achieve whatever it is they want to achieve, even when we know this is the modus operandi in the industry.

So I don't think people deeply have hatred in their hearts, because this is all fiction anyway. At least I would hope so.

Nope, it's a lost cause but he decides to fight till the end.

I would actually prefer something like A Journey to Love. At least we would mourn for everyone, the good ones and the annoying ones 😹

I think we will have to see when season 2 arrives. Season 1 doesn't give much evolution in the way you're hoping for. There's a major event for one of the main characters, which is nice to see.

Let's say he absolutely dies for a good reason, he protects his soldiers, his cause, makes sure there's finally an end to the war, and as if that's not enough, he still makes sure she gets everything she ever wished for.

The only problem is that without him all this is pure sadness because he's the best and only the best ones seem to pay the ultimate price 🥺

I have really bad news if you're expecting to see these two crucial things:
1) Balls; 2) Evolution. Well, unless they turn season 2 into Pokémon Evolutions.

Yep, agreed 💯. The storytelling is great, the two kids were great, the world building is very solid. But then, there's the enjoyment issue. The main problem for me is that I can't bring myself to like the FL, sympathize with her struggles, much less root for her or be happy for her decisions. Oh, and my guy dies. So there's that. I still don't know why I've been hanging out here for almost a year, but it is what it is. Can't seem to move on.
