Very interesting categorization! The plot device part reminded of Alfred Hitchcock. He popularized the term MacGuffin in 1938, during the making of The Lady Vanishes (excellent movie by the way) which is something that serves as a way to move the story forward, that exists solely for the purpose of making the main characters achieve a goal, find their identity, their destiny etc. In Xiao Yao’s case, we can see how her wishes to have a companion that fits the requirement of never abandoning her (which materializes as Jing) is a good example of a MacGuffin. Same with the Lovers Bugs. MacBugs and Jinguffin 😹

Since that's the case, can someone please give me recommendations for a drama with a guy like Xiang Liu? I can't do with the Wimpy and Limpy trope anymore, so how about something that's more my style, a.k.a., a Xiang Liu-like dude from head(s) to toe? Platinum hair is optional but certainly preferred.
