Bad guys don't get good endings, good guys do; that's the law of ALL drama series. if you insert a random character to pair with Ri Qing, people (like you? ;p ) will complain the ending is too neat. There's no good way to end it but out of the two endings, the better ending is to let hai yuan have his happy ending.

then where's ze fang's selfless act to redeem himself? His sacrifice is his redemption. And then Hai Hai Yuan, who is the main lead, won't get his happy ending. That's even a worse ending.

I blame it on the bad storytelling. They need to establish in ep 1 that the grandson is a really bad person, so that in the last ep, when he gives up his body to the grandpa, that's his one selfless act to redeem himself. But yeah, you should imagine he's a very bad person.

He saw that he was not a good person and he wanted to finally do something selfless for his grandpa. so it's not unfair to Ze Fang. But year, Ri Qing is the extra... they should have planted someone in the series from the start for him. But that ending would be too neat too.
