Good drama. Great fighting scenes. Aside from the fight in the rain, I also really liked ZZ's final fight with Zhu Ming Yuan. Both scenes were very well done.
The friendship dynamic was nice, but the friendship conflicts started to feel a bit repetitive. Someone hides a secret so the others won't worry, they eventually find out, everyone agrees not to hide things anymore, and then they end up doing it all over again lol. It's not necessarily a bad character arc, but it became a little repetitive for me.
It was also so good to see YY, AF, and ZRN together. Since this is a wuxia drama with a strong focus on martial arts and politics, my thoughts are that the fighting scenes were excellent, but the political aspect was not as strong. I was expecting more scheming, strategy, or political maneuvering, but it didn't quite reach that level for me.
That said, it was still a good drama overall. One thing I kept wondering, though, who shot the arrow at the end? lol
Anyway, I'm glad I stayed until the end credits because I had been looking for BYT. Everyone in the cast did an amazing job
So yes, I finally finished it yesterday, and it was really good. To be honest, I watched it without too many expectations, and I didn't even know the plot or theme. I thought it was going to focus more on romance because of the edits I've been seeing (btw, Cisha is so handsome š„¹)
Iām so glad that this drama had a solid plot instead of a messy one. I tend to prefer plot-driven stories over heavily romance-themed dramas, so I really enjoyed the political aspects and how the writers kept both the villain and the leads on equal footing. It had the right balance of cleverness and femininity because even though GJZ is an independent and capable woman, she never overshadowed the other characters. She relies on others when she needs to and stands up for herself when she wants to.
As for the acting, I was also happy to see RM and CS once again, this time as the main lead couple. They were both amazing, especially in the final part where everything became so emotional. Another standout was WW. He just keeps improving, and I really loved his character. His character development gradually grew on us viewers throughout the story. I also believe the ending was fitting, contrary to what some viewers think. Personally, I prefer endings that feel realistic and emotional rather than ones that simply cater to the audience's desire for everyone to be happy in the end.
Everyone did a great job, but lastly, I want to appreciate Zuo Ye. Yes, his character was incredibly annoying, but his acting? Especially during the opera clown scene up until his final moments, it was really good. I hope he gets bigger roles in the future.
As for the ending, although I was expecting a more grand punishment for the villain, I do think they rushed that part a little. Nonetheless, it wasn't enough to become a major disappointment for me. And the way I cried when Ye Xian's letters were being read š„¹. He really grew on me. I didn't even cry when Zhan Zhao's MZE died because, as I mentioned earlier, I didn't really know what kind of story this was going to be. I initially thought it was a romance drama, so major character deaths weren't something that ever crossed my mind. Unlike in ZZA where it's a wuxia drama with lots of fighting, so characters being killed off is something you naturally expect, if that makes sense.
Anyway, it has been a really good watch. A genuinely enjoyable drama. Congratulations to the entire team!
I've always wonder bc I dare not read most of the comments, why some here said they didn't like the ending. And I guessed it, I smelled it lol I knew it the moment there was a mention of "war". I'm currently on ep 39, while GJZ is reading the letter...somewhere, someone cut the onions. I also just want to say I love Winwin here, he did so great!!
Finished this drama days ago and honestly, it was really good. It felt like a new and refreshing story where humanity itself became the main focus.
Recently, I came across a post listing dramas they thought were overrated, and most of them were xianxia dramas. Their reasons were mostly about the usual xianxia formula, which made me remember how this genre often challenges your morality and perspective.
Thatās why this drama felt like more than just something to pass the time. It wasnāt only focused on the characters or their individual stories, but also on their perceptions, beliefs, views, and choices. It makes you question yourself too. if you were put in the same situation, how would you decide? Which side would you stand on? I really appreciate stories that can do that. Tbh, I just remember commenting because I came across a video about theories on how scientists/professors/inventors were gone or died after an invention or a cure. I'm not saying it's a fact lol but it was a theory I have watched on how these people are gone because they kill businesses. Somehow the part about the "demonic cultivators" who only wanted to thrive through craftmanship felt like that and thatās also why I donāt really understand comments focusing too much on screentime instead of the plot and the overall purpose of the story.
I also read that this was RJLās end-of-contract drama. Iām not sure if that means like a bad thing, but honestly, this drama was good, and I think both RJL and WHR did great here. Also, Iām glad the drama didnāt hold back with the character deaths lol. Iām a bit sad that viewers automatically dislike dramas just because many characters die. If itās necessary for the story, then why not? For me, a sad ending doesnāt automatically make it a bad ending š
Overall, definitely a good watch. I still have questions about how this connects to AMBF. I know Wushuang is the connection, but Iām curious about how everything ties together. Iāll probably search more about it if I have time.
I barely remember S1. All I can remember are some parts and how it was amazing when I watched it. Now, S2 has been in my watchlist for years because I am always thinking if I need to rewatch S1 before watching this. Is it necessary? Thanks
This is sooooo good! I actually like Immortal Ascension that I even proceed to watching the donghua and it's amazing getting to see YY in a wuxia drama. It just feels a little heavy watching the "political" part of the recent episodes because it feels way too close to how our government is now. Anyway, still don't get it why Youku removed this but luckily it's in Viu. Liking the fighting scenes as well esp the one where ZZ fought after talking to that magistrate. That was good šš»
I'm just back here because I saw people appreciating this one on another platform. This is such a nice drama and I wish lots of people like it despite it being kind of not promoted much bc it aired almost the same time with another popular drama. And I hope people know this is a slow burn, slice of life and character driven plot before they start so they won't feel it is "draggy" after watching a few episodes
I wanted to watch it bc I'm trying to binge CXX dramas, but the rating is a bit bothering. I don't mind tragic or sad endings. I'm built for that lol but is the story really bad or the bad rating is just bc of the ending?
There's no way aide Choi is actually royal, is there?
Hmm. I'd like to think he is possibly from a noble family born illegitimate or from an ex-palace staff who served under the previous queen. Making him a royal or a hidden villain doesn't really match the cliche this drama leans toward to. This drama is heading towards typical romance, bit of cinderella, old type dramas. I don't think they will pull off such twist considering there are only 4 episodes left. And I like Aide Choi as a jolly person lol he is so funny briefing Huijiu and taking her photos
I actually finished this about two weeks ago, but only got around to commenting now. This drama was genuinely amazing.
Iām usually not into modern Cdramas, especially romance-heavy ones, but I ended up loving this far more than I expected. I had it on my list for a while and know it has a high rating, and while waiting for other ongoing dramas, I decided to give it a try and Iām really glad I did.
The leadsā chemistry is off the charts. There wasnāt a single moment that felt boring. The pacing was solid, and the way the romance developed felt natural, never forced or cringey. I also appreciated the architecture and engineering aspects, since I work in the related field. Even the subplot about ZY seeking justice for his father blended well into the story and didnāt feel out of place.
And the game scenes! I honestly wish there were more. They looked great in those outfits, and it added an extra layer of fun. It actually reminded me why I ended up currently watching Fall in Love bc I like to see CXX in a uniform again, even though that drama has been sitting on my list for years.
Overall, Iām just really happy I watched this. Itās one of the few modern dramas I would confidently recommend.
Finally finished the drama, and I have a lot of thoughts, especially about the last third. I actually liked it enough to pause and wait for the remaining episodes to drop. I stopped around the Han Ba arc. When I resumed, I still genuinely enjoyed it. The story is strong, to the point that it even felt like it was adapted from a novel.
For the acting, TJR is really amazing! A very versatile actor. He can go from serious to scheming to bubbly to emotional scenes effortlessly. JJY has definitely improved. I donāt really understand why some people still criticize her acting here because Iāve watched her since Legend of Yunxi, and her growth is very noticeable. ZSX, CDL, and YA also delivered solid performances in this drama. I also want to commend WH as You Chi. Can you all believe this is his debut drama? Because he didnāt feel awkward at all.
For the CGI, I think it was well done. I especially thought about it during the fight between BZ and LJ, the cinematography and effects were really good. Considering the GJM worked on FoF, the visuals are definitely a strong point here.
Now for the roles and plot. I understand how billing works, but in this case, the gap between billing and actual story focus felt too extreme. The overall plot clearly centered more on JL and LWY. When I first started, I honestly thought WSG would be the main ML, especially since heās the last dragon and supposedly the strongest. But as the episodes progressed, the story shifted more toward JLās past, his regrets, and the sacrifices tied to love.
I also remember there was quite a discourse during the Star Stone arc. Some viewers said it focused too much on MM/DZ, while others argued that WSG/WWYās timeline had equal attention. I actually agreed with that at the time, since all five leads were still being shown fairly.
However, toward the ending, WSG, WWY, and LJ started to feel more like supporting characters. Iāve seen situations where higher-billed actors have less screen time, but this one felt especially noticeable. To explain what I mean, Iāll use an example (sorry for using unrelated artists). Imagine Yang Yang and Dilraba are top billed, then Bai Lu, and then Zhang Linghe. Let's say the plot is about the lives of 2 brothers, but instead, the plot shifts into focusing on Zhang Lingheās romance with Dilraba, while Yang Yangās role as his brother becomes more of a supporting storyline, along with Bai Lu. Thatās how the shift in this drama felt. This isnāt hate toward any of the actors. I like them all but the issue between billing and plot direction was very noticeable.
And honestly because of the billing, I expected the later episodes to focus more on WSGās development as the 10th dragon, but that didnāt really happen.
The time reversal aspect was another issue for me. It became quite repetitive. At the same time, I did enjoy those moments. It felt like an āAvengersā moment seeing characters who had already died come back to support them. However, this is also where things started to feel a bit messy. The final reversal wasnāt clearly explained. How was WSG able to remember everything while others didnāt?
I even saw an alternate interpretation in the comments. The Fox Queen died 50 years earlier. LWY was created at the same time, and JL had already been the dragon deity for 100 years (so he is supposedly the dragon deity for 50 years by that time). In that version, the borrowing of power and major events would still happen, with the main difference being that no one from Formless Moon would be there when WSG gained his dragon power. That would still lead to JL sacrificing himself in the end because Han Ba mission happened before LWY was created (the memory was used by then in original timeline). But then again, was he consumed by Lonescale as originally written? Maybe that explains why JL isnāt there while WSG becomes the dragon deity but it still doesnāt explain why WSG retains his memories while others donāt. And the ending kind of felt like a giveaway to viewers who loved JiLu because where did they even come from?
Because of the time reversal, a lot of questions come up, and the show doesnāt fully address them. This is why I usually donāt like stories that play heavily with timelines unless they can explain things clearly within the narrative.
Overall, it was still a good and interesting watch. The cast and cinematography were strong. It could have been even better if the final part focused more on the plot rather than leaning heavily into romance (though I did like JiLu and WuWu. They have great chemistry). I think I just have to accept some of the questionable parts so I donāt end up nitpicking everything. Still a good drama overall!
I like the first 2 episodes. I don't know why I kept reading posts saying they're disappointed because it was hyped. Yes, it was hyped bc that's how you gain viewers. It needs hype so that people will start watching it. So it is not yet overhyped because we aren't even half the series for you to judge the plot lol, how is it overhyped when there are only 2/12 episodes out. People are so quick to judge these days. This is a romcom drama, it is supposed to be light and easy to watch. I don't know what other people are expecting but if it isn't to your liking then drop it, no need to spread negative comments esp hate towards the cast
most probably bcs of chi wen. when YWH first met JL, he was just a fox who have simple magic from CW. He couldn't…
I was also thinking about that at first but from what was shown, JL has turned in his human form while imprisoned so I don't think CW helped him. And from his words with JY, he suffered. Also, the way he describe the doll accompanying him means he did suffer while being imprisoned by YWH. That's also why this question popped up in my head about how they were so close in Shilin sect despite that past š But yes, we will have our answers in the next episodes. Thank you!
It's original script. But from spoilers as far I know...ā¬ļø
thanks! that is something that confuse me too, why is Xizai the same face as him and the doll from the memory is for Xizai(?) given by YWH so how did it went to JL and accompanied him. I guess we really have to wait for everything to be revealed. Thank you!!
I'll try to start this one but do I need to rewatch Princess Agents or will they show a summary? I already watched Princess Agents but it was yearsssss ago so I don't really remember it much.
I'm loving it so far!! I was able to catch up with the episodes so now I am also part of the waiting game. Question: if YWH imprisoned JL for a long time, did they ever get over this? I mean wouldn't JL supposed to hate YWH for that but the past memories showed they were so close. Donāt kno if this is a novel so please spoil me below. If not, then I guess we will have to wait for JL's full story. The truths revealing one by one, I can already feel the ending.....but still hoping for HE
On ep 16 now, can someone spoil me below if Jiang Ai will betray Simu? or even Yan ke will start obsessive love issues with Simu? I watched Zhang Li with Reba drama last time sooooo I am not yet over with her image as technically the villain in that one hahahahaha
The friendship dynamic was nice, but the friendship conflicts started to feel a bit repetitive. Even the subplot about ZY seeking justice for his father blended well into the story and didnāt feel out of place.
Most importantly, the romance really stood out. I often lose interest once the main couple gets together, but here it was the opposite. I kept wanting more. I once saw a video edit from another app about how the shoes in this drama can tell their romance: from HX losing her heels during their first game and ZY/XY picking them up, to the convenience store scene, to him retrieving her shoes during her ex-fiancĆ©ās wedding, and until she has her own slippers in ZY's house and her stepping into his feet at his home. That kind of subtle storytelling shows how thoughtfully this drama was written.
And the game scenes! I honestly wish there were more. They looked great in those outfits, and it added an extra layer of fun. It actually reminded me why I ended up currently watching Fall in Love bc I like to see CXX in a uniform again, even though that drama has been sitting on my list for years.
