It's China, and that's normal. Most actors after breaking out of the circle or starting playing the leading role won't be returning to supporting roles, No matter how successful those projects were. ( unless their work performed poorly & they stop getting lead roles)
In 2023, when this drama started filming, Xiao Zhan was already a well-established top artist in China. Considering how the Chinese entertainment industry and its marketing strategies work, I'm not surprised he didn't participate in the project.

Not only this, but Eternal Faith, & Winner Is King too (unless they allow BL stuff or even bromance like TU & WOH). Instead of getting disappointed, Go & read the original novel, if you haven't.
