Before The Prisoner of Beauty (TPOB) aired, i had already started watching Season 3. But after TPOB aired and ended, since i still wanted to see more of LYN and SZR, i decided to go back and watch Season 1 instead ❤️ Now i’ve watched up to episode 19 and wow—Season 1’s concept feels even more impressive and well-prepared, especially in terms of the case plots. The characters remain the same throughout the episodes (not different characters in each episode), and the set designs are amazing—i was stunned by the concept. The way the camera constantly switches focus between LYN and SZR also happens quite a lot—it goes from LYN to SZR and back again multiple times LOL. Maybe it’s just me (TPOB bias kicking in LOL)
And it turns out LYN is actually a scaredy-cat hahah—so different from how he is in Season 3, where he’s already braver, at least braver than the girls LOL. It’s so funny watching LYN, ZS and GQL together—the three of them when the lights go out their screaming is hilarious. Bai Yu hasn’t changed since Season 1—he’s still the bravest one and also the most "lazy" one LOL
Why is this drama only having 31 episodes on Netflix?
It should air again in full up to episode 36. Because on WeTV (Tencent), for regular VIP users (those who didn’t buy the express package), episodes 32 to 36 will be released this week, one episode per day
Rewatching this again. I miss the comment section. Anybody read the novel? Is it worth reading? I heard book WS…
I started reading the novel after the drama ended because i was curious about the novel version. I'm only up to chapter 40, and well… I’d say the novel version of Wei Shao is a bit too domineering 😅 I prefer the drama version of Wei Shao ❣️💕
I hope that after TPOB, this drama will be released to take its place (though it doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen 🥹) Ugh, i've also been looking forward to this drama alongside TPOB
I’m happy the drama was a success and had a happy ending, but also i’m sad that it ended so quickly 😩 It was totally worth the wait and truly deserved to be called a highly anticipated drama — and it really did boom. Absolutely loved LYN’s acting here, and SZR looked so beautiful too. Their on/off-screen chemistry was just lovely. Hiks 😭 Thank you to all the actors, actresses, and film crew ❤️💕
Aside from loving tonight’s kiss scene (which I think we all enjoyed 😍💖), i also really loved the scene in episode 28 where WS judged and executed Lady Lu. Oh man! I was so impressed by LYN’s acting there — his facial expressions and eyes were seriously terrifying, showing the firmness of his decision and the confidence he had while delivering judgment. I also loved how disgusted WS looked while listening to Lady Lu’s words. There’s only one thing i thought was lacking, they should’ve just let Lady Lu be executed xixixixi 😈
And in episode 29, i really liked the wise words from WS’s grandmother. Just two sentence from his grandmother made WS even more convinced of his decision to protect Lian City (Yanzhou) — not only because it belonged to the Qiao family and they’ve formed an alliance, but also because her words made him reflect “If WS betrays, how is he any different from Lord Qiao?” and “Evil should be repaid with kindness.”
I love love love tonight’s episodes. Ughhh I can’t wait for the next one. Hiks, only one episode is airing tomorrow 😢 Really looking forward to the 29th — express episodes coming all at once, yay!! 🎉
Finished this drama from episodes 35 to 40 at full speed. The conflict resolution was so bizarre, many scenes were terribly edited, and there were also a lot of moments that felt like—suddenly this happened, then suddenly that happened—ugh. The scene cuts also got worse toward the end. As for the rebellion and throne struggle scenes—well, no comment. I found them really boring. I thought there would be a big war, but it turned out completely flat.
I was actually really looking forward to this drama before it aired, but it ended up falling way below expectations. I recommend you just read the novel instead.
I was so frustrated watching this drama, I ended up cursing the whole time while watching it. 🤣 I had to force myself to finish it quickly because i had already bought the express pass from the start 🥲
How have they been doing in following the novel so far?
As someone who read the novel first, i feel frustrated with the drama version 😤
After reading your summary, i just realized that in the drama version, many moments that should have belonged to the ML were instead given to the SML — unlike in the novel. Like the story plots you mentioned in points 2–5, i just now noticed that those plots were supposed to be for Lu Chang, not SQZ.
I agree with your words — the drama version ended up stealing the ML’s spotlight. Even Lu Chang’s revenge plot for his teacher (by trying to reopen the case) and how he got to know Su Tang Li — those weren’t in the novel 😕 The plot in the drama has already strayed quite far from the novel

I keep rewatching it over and over while waiting for the release of A Dream Within a Dream and Legend of the Female General 💔
