I just think he said it, only because she said it first, she said "Tsugumi never cant understand him, they cant be together" for me its similar when man say his girlfriend that she is ugly, nobody will love her, only to make her insecure and make her stay with him. She did the same, she want Sou feel unworthy (she literally said that Tsugumi spend time with him, because of pity), and any girl cant be with him/understand him (except her of course)) that was really rude, so its normal that Sou said it back.
