There can be forced romance (forced by the writers but feels unnatural), but in this drama it's not forced at all. Also, if you're here for the romance, you may be disappointed because it develops veeeery veeery slowly. We have just watched episode 10 and still the two people have barely acknowledged it to themselves, let alone said or done anything.

It's an excellent drama, I'm enjoying it very much.

But I don't think that expressing some reservations means "hating". No need to be that susceptible to any form of criticism. Between "I love it" and "I hate it" there are many many intermediate positions.

You know what "layers" means, right? It means that sometimes I may look cool and composed but be boiling inside. Nobody will notice, but perceptive people, or people who know me, people who have "feelers", antennas, will see in my eyes or in a very slight twitching of the lips the anger I feel under the surface. That's what skilled actors do. It's never only one emotion (or lack thereof). It's what we feel and what we show others. And even if we show what we feel, even then there may be 2 or 3 conflicting emotions at the same time. That's why acting is not a simple job. An actor has to portray the various layers and express many things at a time. (IU does this masterfully).
By the way I liked this actor's job in other dramas where I've seen him, where he had to play someone very similar to himself. He was quite lovable. Maybe here as well, he will find his bearings in the next episodes. I wish the best for him, with all my heart.

A skilled actor can layer his interpretation. Keep his cool in accordance to the character's position etc. but still show to US, the audience, with small, almost imperceptible details, what's going on inside.

It's because he thought that cool and impassible and introvert means expressionless. He needs a better director.

There are good rom-coms without cringe and cliché scenes. It can be done! But of course it's much easier to go with the tried and trusted recipes. Like drawing by numbers. It's hard to be original and still appeal to the public. Then there are dramas that use clichés but in a creative way, in an organic way, so you don't mind. For instance "What happened to secretary Kim" did have clichés, but it was so well-made that you didn't mind. "My beloved thief" had the soul-swapping cliché and we all grumbled "Oh, no! AGAIN?" but it was done so well that we all acknowledged that it played an important role and seemed necessary for the story.
So there are ways to use those things successfully.
Let's see how this drama will do it!

He was better in Lovely Runner. I think that many actors mistake "cold, impassible character" with expressionless and stiff. Admittedly, it's the most difficult character to portray, because the other characters have to perceive him as inscrutable but we, the viewers of the drama, have to see the little cracks that show his inner turmoil. So it needs layers of acting, which require more skill.
IU, in contrast, does a good job in showing us both the bitchy front that others see and the vulnerable, lonely, bullied, unwanted child that lies beneath the surface.
Let's hope that the male lead will catch on quickly as his character will also be allowed to show other sides.

I didn't see any really bad comments. People said that it seems to be a bit predictable, the male lead lacking in acting compared to IU who is always so good, and the whole thing nothing to gush over but still quite enjoyable.
After all it has a 8.6 rating here, which cannot be considered bad, can it?
