A skilled actor can layer his interpretation. Keep his cool in accordance to the character's position etc. but still show to US, the audience, with small, almost imperceptible details, what's going on inside.

It's because he thought that cool and impassible and introvert means expressionless. He needs a better director.

There are good rom-coms without cringe and cliché scenes. It can be done! But of course it's much easier to go with the tried and trusted recipes. Like drawing by numbers. It's hard to be original and still appeal to the public. Then there are dramas that use clichés but in a creative way, in an organic way, so you don't mind. For instance "What happened to secretary Kim" did have clichés, but it was so well-made that you didn't mind. "My beloved thief" had the soul-swapping cliché and we all grumbled "Oh, no! AGAIN?" but it was done so well that we all acknowledged that it played an important role and seemed necessary for the story.
So there are ways to use those things successfully.
Let's see how this drama will do it!

He was better in Lovely Runner. I think that many actors mistake "cold, impassible character" with expressionless and stiff. Admittedly, it's the most difficult character to portray, because the other characters have to perceive him as inscrutable but we, the viewers of the drama, have to see the little cracks that show his inner turmoil. So it needs layers of acting, which require more skill.
IU, in contrast, does a good job in showing us both the bitchy front that others see and the vulnerable, lonely, bullied, unwanted child that lies beneath the surface.
Let's hope that the male lead will catch on quickly as his character will also be allowed to show other sides.

I didn't see any really bad comments. People said that it seems to be a bit predictable, the male lead lacking in acting compared to IU who is always so good, and the whole thing nothing to gush over but still quite enjoyable.
After all it has a 8.6 rating here, which cannot be considered bad, can it?

Sometimes it happens when you have a lot of expectations that it will be wow, but instead it's just decent and you feel disappointed. Maybe because of IU people expected Hotel del Luna. But you don't get a masterpiece every single time.

I liked her in MIss Granny, but here the overacting was cringe. When something is taken from a manga or an anime, it doesn't mean that the real life actors have to act as if they were cartoon characters!

And frankly even a couple of passionate kisses wouldn't have saved it.

Did you read any articles about the Korean natality problem? They do have less sex. The Japanese too. Sometimes married couples over 40 stop having sex altogether. Crazy! Maybe it's because they work too much?

She didn't want to make the first move. She said what she said and let him understand. He understood the hint and he made his move. It's a subtle interaction that adds interest and anticipation.

Also they often haven't read the whole thing when they accept a role, just the first 2-3 episodes.

She did explain herself to him and she set boundaries. She clearly said that she thinks of someone else while they are together, and after that that she is dating the other guy. What more is needed? In episode 10 he conducted himself very properly, he phoned to ML, didn't push himself as the saviour. While at the same time watching from the sidelines in case the ML didn't come on time and the situation got out of hand.
And... if you have been watching k-dramas for some time, you should know that we shouldn't judge from previews, they are often misleading - on purpose.

Both things are okay. Sometimes a show is bad because of the screenplay and sometimes because of the acting or directing (and, worst case, because all of those!)

They are already who Wu Ju needs. The child's biological parents were also first-time parents, so any mistakes could also have been done if they hadn't died. New parents are clueless, they do the best they can, and so did those two people, although it wasn't even their child.

Νο, Ι didn't get any romantic vibes from the FL. She knows he's a green flag, decent guy, all the specs etc., but she has no real attraction. She keeps saying thank you when he does nice things to her but seems burdened (the friend said it very wisely, it's because deep down she knows she cannot reciprocate! She rationalizes her feelings thinking that if she loved him once maybe that can still happen, but she never acts as if she's attracted to him. The bond between her and the ML was slowly but surely developed and deepened since many episodes ago. It's just that neither of them realized it, especially her. But it was definitely there, we could all see it.
