Title Utsuro na Jujika Spoiler
I spoiled myself the novel but god it's so heartbreaking...

So basically the ex-wife was interviewing the girl Saori and she confessed that she and her ex-boyfriend had a baby and the killed the baby as soon as it was born, which is very horrifying.

That ex-boyfriend is the doctor Nishina. Since then, he regretted it deeply and went on to save his current wife from committing suicide and raised her kid who wasn't even his. He also became a pediatrician out of guilt to save as many kids as possible.

When she found out, Sayako wanted Saori to confess and to give herself and Nishina to the police for their crimes. When Nishina's father-in-law (Machimura) finds out, he kills her to protect his daughter and son-in-law. In his eyes him behind bars is not helping anyone, but him being free is helping his daughter and grandson along with saving the life of many kids.

It is very tragic because I can clearly understand both sides. Killing Sayako was never and will never be ok and he deserves jail time for it, but I do understand and agree with where he is coming from. What is there to gain from Nishina going to prison and losing his doctor license? he clearly regrets it very deeply and is already rehabilitated.
He is indeed more useful to society out than inside prison. I do understand Sayako tho too since her daughter was also killed and she can't forgive any murderer. It's really tragic and complicated morally. I also didn't agree with her belief that EVERY single murderer should get the death penalty tho... like it depends on the circumstances and motives too.

At the end Nishina and Saori confess to the police but because it has been 20 years they couldn't find a tiny body in the middle of a forest, and so without the body they couldn't be arrested with just a confession. Him and Saori continue to live with the guilt, which is presented as punishment to both of them since both are struggling deeply about it.
This also Makes it more sad tho cause now Sayako is dead and Machimura is prison when Nishina wasn't going to prison anyway.... so basically for nothing.

The novel is basically about legal punishment and atonement and forgiveness and how they are not always the same thing.

Title 25 Years of You Spoiler
Damn! The friend's sister was murdered by that abductor.
That is why he was going through Sota's notes trying to find out more.
On another note, honestly the show is very boring and problematic but I am high-key only watching this for Hokuto as a Sixtones fan. He is really good in it.

They already knew he was Alius. The car was wiretapped. I feel terribly sorry for him... The system is terribly…
I don’t think he mentioned that he was Alius in the car tho. Also the car was wiretapped by the other Alius not the police to know where the last guy he wants to kill is.

Lmao why are the comments below so slow?
Makoto was never alive. The show tried to trick the viewer but all the scenes with Makoto were before his "proposal" plan. It was just that the story was non-linear and showed us flashbacks of back then.
I thought that it was pretty clear....
Like do people genuinely think that the dad would hang out with the killer of his daughter AFTER what happened lmao...

GOD!
So poor Kanzaki is just imprisoned and watched 24/7 even tho he literally did nothing wrong. It was stupid of him to reveal that he was Alius. He could've went to the Alius community that the wife made.
Such a bleak and depressing ending with the shitty police winning.
The look on Kanzaki's eyes in the end is so sad and terrifying....
I know there won't be but I wish they would make a season 2 with Kanzaki being set free somehow.
I wouldn't mind a season 2 with him as a villain slaughtering all these trash police people as revenge

OMGG just discovered that the name of the "main villain" (Sakaki Soma) is the name of the MC of the manga series ALIUS!!!
Definitely reading that after I watch the last episode now.
Will be interesting to read how he got here.
