I love Ji Chang wook and he definitely deserved the nomination more than Kim soo hyun this time. But did you just…
I have the right to have my own opinion I think, and write what I want about him. I have seen him in several dramas and movies, and yes, I find him average as an actor overall, he never impressed me, never left a good impression through his acting and his roles. If it wasn't for his good looks he would have never been this popular. At least that's what I think. If you think differently that's okay with me, but don't come telling me what to think. Tastes and likes are the less universal thing in the world after all. We both like Ji Chang Wook it seems, it doesn't mean we will like everything the same and think about everything the same way neither. ;)
I actually totally understand that "The Worst of Evil " wasn't choose to be nominated for Best Drama at the 60th Baeksang Arts Awards. But the fact that Chang Wook wasn't nominated for Best Actor for his role as Park Joon Mo is a masquerade. Nam Goong Min and Ryu Seung Ryong, totally deserved their nominations. I haven't seen the others dramas, but I can understand that an actor like Im Si Wan or Yoo Yeon Seok received a nomination, as I have seen their acting abilities in other projects. But Kim Soo Hyun ?! Whom drama isn't even finished yet ? What a joke. That's totally a "popularity and pretty face" nomination, definitely not based on his skills as an actor, because he really is average. This awards shows aren't all, but still, it's always nice for an actor to receive the appreciation and fame associated with it, so it's very annoying to see such an amazing actor as Chang Wook not being nominated after pulling out perfectly a role like Park Joon Mo.
So, is this drama one of the scripts he was reviewing in his Milan vlog? If it's releasing this year, when is…
The problem with these reports is that they never give an accurate timeline, here it's just about an offer, we had the same with another drama that he finally declined, and Chang Wook don't officially share his schedule so it's always speculations about what and when he is filming a project.
King Gogukcheon ? Neither of that, the political situation was under control, so he wasn't killed. The historical records mention his death in May 197, after reigning 17 years, without specific cause of the death, so it implies for that time that it was "natural", so probably an illness. He was at least 21 years old, but probably around 30, and 40 maximum. It's pretty normal at that time to die at this age from illness. Living over 40/50 was exceptional.
I still think it's not that bad, even though production-wise there are true defaults. The main one is the pace and development of the story for me. 4 episodes and the main characters still haven't officially met (even if there was the brief encounter in front of the vet office). That's too slow, especially because the overall story doesn't have a slow pace or atmosphere. I'm sure the interactions between Mew and Ji Min will be cute though, even if it will be weird if non of them speak a little the language of the other.
Yes, she betrayed his memory at least, as she supported Sansang, Gogukcheon's younger brother, against their older brother Balgi, to become the next king after he died, so she could then marry him, stay queen and keep her clan in power.
As this sageuk is raising anticipation, which is very good, and the comment section here already quite vividly, I'm bringing back my little trivia regarding King Gogukcheon virtuous representation in Korean History: From the "Samguk Sagi" ("History of the Three Kingdoms", an historical record of Goguryeo, Baekje and Silla, which is the primary source for the events at that time), in Volume 17, Goguryeo's Book 5.
"In the autumn of the 8th year of King Dongcheon (Year 234), Empress Dowager Woo passed away. On her deathbed, the Empress Dowager made the following will: “Since I didn’t behave properly during my life, how can I look at Kukyang (國壤, King Gogukcheon) from the underworld? If my servants cannot bear to dispose of my body in a ditch or a pit, please bury me next to the tomb of King Sansang.” Soon after, it was done according to the Empress Dowager's will. After that, a shaman said: “Kukyang (國壤, King Gogukcheon) came down to me and said: ‘Seeing that Lady Woo went to King Sansang yesterday, I couldn't contain my resentment, so I ultimately fought with Lady Woo. When I came back and thought about it, no matter how thick my face was, I couldn't bear to face the people of the country anymore. You inform the Court so that my grave is covered from people's vision.’” For this reason, pine trees were planted in seven layers around King Kukyang's tomb by his nephew King Dongcheon."
Well, they did a good job for the final episode, surely. The whole drama wasn't bad, I liked the aesthetic, but the problem was the disappointment due to the expectations raised at first. Looking forward to Fukada Ryusei future roles because he really caught my eyes as a promising actor here.
Episode 5 was actually annoying. Of course they will end up together in the last episode, the preview is pretty obvious on what will happen. But at some point it's weird the way the characters are quite straightforward but in the same time avoid the important things to say, it doesn't make sense, at least for me. It was cute the first episodes but after 5 it was just annoying.
The fact that this drama hasn't a rating over 8 here is a true disgrace. I just can't understand the tastes and opinions of the majority of people here.
Rewatching it after some time was a good idea. I appreciated it much more this time and raised my ratings. It's still the same story, but I think the frustration I had back then was partially because I was watching the episodes week after week, which made it worse. This time I watched all the episodes in two days and the pace was much better. I also watched many more BLs since then, but Son Woo Hyun and Kim Kang Min's chemistry is really one of the best I have seen, it's on another level. Kang Seo Joon and Han Ji Woo aren't one of my top and favourite characters couples, but Woo Hyun and Kang Min are really great actors.
I just rewatched the scene because I didn't notice anything when watching it the first time, but I personally…
I understand what you mean and I agree with it actually. Let's see the next episodes to confirm if they unfortunately did a poor job to produce this drama or if it's only the start that was a little bit failed.
People just have so much double standards it's ridiculous. I won't pretend this drama is a masterpiece, it's definitely not. But the script isn't worse than many other dramas here that are rated over 8 and even near 9 for some of them, so I really find that hypocrite. Not to mention the incredible "body shame" against Hong Su Zu (for many it's not just her actings they criticise). When you see people pretending to be kind and respectful and outraged at any negative comment for other projects, here it's really just a mutt gang feeding on some poor girl. In the end, it just comes to fandom support, and unfortunately for her she doesn't have many fans.
Stumbled upon this on Viki, but haven't watched yet. Came over here to see what you all thought and whoa such…
I don't agree with that. I always rate a drama after watching the first episode, depending on how I felt about it, and my ratings will evolve until the last episode and my final judgment of it overall. But on the contrary I don't care at all about the ratings on MDL, it's definitely not representative considering that the panel here is very not well-balanced. And after all, it's highly subjective, so I personally don't trust other judgements because I have my own tastes that rarely fits with the mass here.

Right, indeed. Well, it's unfortunate, but it doesn't mean the production is sloppy or they don't care about their project. After all, even famous or awards wining movies had their share of production mistakes. It happens. ;)
