Half agree. Both genders should be allowed to pursue, but I don’t think either gender pursuing is simping. Males should be allowed to do the same without being called simps.

Big part of most East Asian dramas and movie plots. Might be a cultural thing to struggle to express certain emotions or just an East Asian cliche they use for story telling at this point. Way too consistent everywhere.

lastly, different genres = different expectations (to live up to)
better to compare dramas within the same genre
