In all the CDrama's synopsis I've read, I've never seen one that left out one of the Leads completely. So where…
According to the novel he's a blue-eyed Khitan from the Yelü clan (famous in history) who kidnaps FL and made her his slave, and the story is mainly about her trying to escape. But the drama censored his ethnicity because it's politically sensitive.
This description of the drama sounds different from the synopsis of the novel I read. The book seems much more…
I think it's due to censorship. Producers usually don't make shows about minorities because they're scared of being accused of intentionally making them look bad and offending people of that descent. (How nomadic people are always evil and "barbaric", how miao/hmong people are all witches that cast love spells). Therefore, they either change the focus of the story or make that one character's ethnicity ambiguous.
For example: Qu Xiaofeng from "Goodbye My Princess" was changed from Gokturk to some random fictional tribe. Ashile Sun from "The Long Ballad" was changed from Khitan to Chinese.
https://mydramalist.com/745641-xiang-si-lingoh everlasting longing has mention of khitan/qi dan people
You're right. But just from the way they changed ML's original novel name and named his tribe instead of straight up saying that he's Khitan, I'm expecting censorship. Probably didn't want to offend the Yelü clan. Smh.
Actually I was talking about the second leads. Baili Hongyi clearly has no interest in Liu Ran but they keep giving her screentime, baiting the audience even though they don't end up falling for each other. For some reason everybody ships them. Their romance looks so forced and annoying. I'd rather have Liu Ran as a small supporting character instead of main.
The character development is just weird. It doesn't make sense that amnesia would degrade a mature, strong-willed women into a childish little girl. For all those episodes in the beginning I was confused whose soul was in Yao Mowan's body, until she got the memories back. I'm glad the plot got so much better after the FL entered the palace.
I hope it comes with happy ending. I dropped GMP because it has tragic ending. why would I waste my time watching…
I actually liked the ending because it gives Xiaofeng the least suffering. You can't force a HE on Xiaofeng because she sticks to ethical principles. Eventually she would have to make a choice between her husband or her brother. No matter which side she chooses, she would live the rest of her life being tormented by guilt for dragging her country into bloodshed.
The main problem isn't the plot. It's the characters. NONE of the main cast have likeable personalities. They're…
That's your opinion of the anime and I respect that. To me, the main charm of the show is Tang San's personality. It has to make logical sense. In the novel he is a 35-year-old stuck in a child's body, so he doesn't whine and cry at everything. He would never talk back to his dad and master. He's the smartest disciple of the original Tang Sect, so that explains why he's so arrogant. He has battle experience, so he's not scared of giant spiders in the forest. However, the drama made no sense. They never showed these strong points/good things about him. It was like watching a 10-year-old stuck in a 29-year-old's body.
you should definitely watch the anime version, you will know more about the characters, the fl is supposed to…
She wasn't even childish in the anime. She's actually the most mature kid in their dorm (in the first school). She protected them all from being bullied by the rich kids.
I'm only at Ep5 and wondering if I should continue... I find the FL annoyingly childish and full of herself! XZ…
You should have watched the anime instead because the FL's personality was the total opposite. She never acted cutesy and cringe in the anime. When they were little (age 6), she was a female boss and always picking fights. But she became calm and more mature at age 12.
Drama adapted from novel doesn’t mean it’s needed to copy novel 100% 🥲
The main problem isn't the plot. It's the characters. NONE of the main cast have likeable personalities. They're all OOC (out of character). Tang San became weak and childish, Xiao Wu became dumb and cowardly, Dai Mubai became shallow and selfish, Zhu Zhuqing became loud and bitchy, Ning Rongrong became extremely rude, Ma Hongjun has anger issues, and Oscar talks too much.
For example: In the anime, when Tang San was 7, he just accepted the fact that his dad left him, and moved on like a mature man. He worked hard to become strong so he can protect his dad and adopted sister. But in the drama, he was crying and begging his father to stay. And everything he did was only to impress girls. Wtf??
