I just looked at what you have rated highly (on your page) .. based on that lemme predict: You'll LOVE LOVE the first several eps .. Then you'll get a sinking feeling .. Finally you will debate dropping .. if you persevere it will be with thumb on FFD .. If you reach the end .. your boat will have hit rock bottom .. BUT BUT BUT .. the last scene will be like a siren song you hear from the bottom of the disaster (that it ended up being) and feel a deep ache .. for the LOSS of a wonderful DRAMA potential with a stellar cast.
I wondered if a widower who becomes Emperor, can after his coronation bestow the title of Empress to his late…
@unbeliebubble
I think @Vincenzo Cassano was simply expressing another opinion. I defend his argument strongly .. you can scroll below .. I put more facts in from the drama that shows she died on that chair that time we saw her last.
I wondered if a widower who becomes Emperor, can after his coronation bestow the title of Empress to his late…
LOL @Vincenzo Cassano
I think @unbeliebubble is traumatized by the drama killing her off .. AND thus overly sensitive and picking up non-existent 'rude' in the simple words expressing another view.
It was clearly mentioned that the poison would kill her in 3 more months ,, and she'd not see another 'proper' winter descending, for the dragon whisker flower to sprout. That imminent death was what made it so poignant .. The last scene with Mei Lin is her 'dying' on that chair .. WHICH is repeated in the final scene when Murong Zhinghe ALSO passes away at the EXACT same spot in the EXACT same posture!!
Of course one understands the need to 'self-read' and also create "fan-fic" of the story when it is painful .. BUT the drama itself WAS NOT open ended .. it hit the nail in hard and clear that many things happened to Murong on his way to becoming emperor .. and it was ALL after she passed away .
I too was surprised that they referred to her as EMPRESS ..
Ummm OKAY honestly? NO I am NOT surprised AT ALL .. the DRAMA was a DISASTER from Ep 20 onwards .. (ok lets be generous .. ep 24 onwards) but it started tumbling pretty early .. (for me it was around ep 5-6 .. the irreversible fall began with the Village arc).
Given the lack of any drama with promise I rewatched other stuff ..
AND THEN held my nose and dived in to wrap up KMLM.
UGH!!! What a disaster it was!!
It COULD have been a GREAT story .. BUT it ended up feeling like half a dozen writers were put in separate rooms and told to work on slices of the drama after being given the general idea of what they want to make .. OR the script was chucked during filming and the directors (different ones) decided to edit and change the tale according their own preferences and didnt speak to each other to discuss coherence.
There were beautiful "standalone' bits .. there were elegiac moments captured with mood OST and camerawork and our STUNNINGLY good looking OTP... but but but .. they didnt cohere or add up to much.
The drama truly LOST its way.
I think 8/10 is generous .. it requires a 7/10 IMO
OKAY .. fine I'll make it 7.5/10 and ALL because of those few stunning segments (which becomes pointless in a failed drama actually) and for LXY .. I GOBBLED HIM UP for the rest of the drama .. Is he one of the hottest creatures around or what .. made my knees go jelly .. and truly I havent earlier (or probably ever in my 4 years) slurped up a crap drama based ONLY on how delish an actor is on screen - of course the cinematographer was par excellence (and the costume dept KNEW how to package them), so that helped .. and OST added the mood to those long lingering resting on his face.
I am SO hungry to see him in more dramas ..
Final comment : WHAT happened to the promise of a GRAND GRAND (with one of the most spectacular opening episodes) period Drama with a STELLAR cast and a medias res launch .. WHAT A damp squib : remember those firecrackers Yi XeWu buys with Tan Tai Jin on New Year's walk in the street? Yeah .. like that .. except no TTJ and YXW
๐ฏ๐ฏ๐ฏ๐ฏ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ I really needed to read feel purged of all my "piss" after I sped (FFWD) my way ep 20 onwards.
Trust me I almost DROPPED this drama (put on hold) at Ep 19. Was getting so irritated and antsy from Ep 4-5, disliking the development arc it was taking.. But sat through (that ridiculous village segment) ALL bearable because CXY rocks my boat.
I saw CXY for the first time in this drama and decided to take a detour through his other dramas - which I did and LOVED it sooooo much.
Then for the lack of a better watch I thought I'd check in and wrap this, just in case it picks up... ๐บ๐บ๐บ๐บ๐บ
WTF...
I echo ALL your thoughts on the drama.. And love the derision you dumped on it ๐๐๐๐
I also ๐ฏfelt the same way about the last episode..watched it fully.. And was left with an ache because it was SO BEAUTIFULLY done. All the more triggering a sense of anger and annoyance because WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN!!!!
It's CXY slurping that kept me flipping through the scenes...just to gawp at that gorgeous face
This drama is a mixed bag of strengths and missed opportunities. Letโs start with what it got right: the music…
@Majin
One of the major reasons for me was the FL - I cant get behind the 'helpless - aegya-styled - naive" FL trope. I mean she was cute to look at .. did she HAVE to GLOSS it up with the 'aegya-acting' ... Of course I enjoyed watching (binge-mode). The first half had a momentum that carried me to the end .. on its own the second half for me felt like it was in 'loop' mode .. 'chorus' mode .. so just the curiosity to see how they would do the grand finale pulled me in.
It didn't give me a grand finale upper .. Great acting and all .. but all the juicy meat of the story was eaten up in the first 6 eps .. and we were left slurpping the gravy .. the flashbacks were super story movers ..
I am liking this so far .... except I wish the FL would stop screaming so much and play the character a little…
@CKDramaddict Honestly the FL for me came across as 'fluffy' .. not a bright button who can crackle with her own witty banter but one who knows how to giggle with the ML's jokes (eye-roll)
(I'll own up here that 'aegya' act - which Kdrama splatters on in oodles - turns me off no end) .. she is cute looking .. so when she adds on 'aegya' it makes my stomach roil (B&$F reflex triggers).
She didn't have to force on a 'cute - naive' to be appealing .. because she 'looks' it. In fact scrubbing ALL the cute-act away would make her character far more absorbing.
It was a great watch for sure .. given how well the rest of the elements came together .. however because I couldn't identify AT ALL with the FL character the way it was played by this actress (who I am sure is talented) it didn't move me as deeply as it could have given how powerful the story was.
Great acting and production, but I'm not really feeling connected to the characters. Something about this drama…
Ep 1 - 6 or 7 is fast and furious .. breathless, tight knit, promise of plot movement .. then it begins to hit loop mode .. with repeats .. and takes on the sit-com format .. it's interesting and lovely to was but not moving plot wise / story wise with the same page-turner mode as the first half.
Just finished Mr Plankton and came back here to see what rating this drama had garnered after all these years.
"Sheebal" only an 8.1โ๏ธ
Mr Plankton is 8.8. While I did throughly enjoy the first part of MP... It didn't make me want to rewatch it. Nor did I bawl my eyes out "uncontrollably" both times I watched UF.
I wish to go bawl my eyes out a 3rd time - and watch Bae Suzy do her thing and Woo Bin make my knees go jelly.
I'll choose UF over MP any day for the feelz - flutters and loud weeping tears streaming down my face each time
i actually realllllly liked this show - it was mature and even romantic later on!! The ML was a real star in this…
๐คช๐
Ooops - not so much kindred on this then. ๐
I still get eewyu vibes recalling the "MIScasting". But like I said in my next comment - it's ๐ฏ๐ฏworked for majority of viewers since it has such top ratings
P.S. I had completely forgotten about this "ugh-meal" ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ soured me again. BECAUSE the script sounded just up my alley, it triggered me even more. ๐๐

Very rarely does a drama explode like this right at the get go.
And this was 2016 production.
Check it out

Excited - TWO heavy duty actors
