On the total eps many pp got different news on what it supposed to be. I have followed this drama 1 yr bfr they started filming, since Oct 2020 it has been circulating among LYX fans that he’ll film this novel Ip drama with Otter.
Before filming producer registered CYJM for 58 eps – 2 parts (there were screenshots last yr). The 58 eps was on trending weibo, pp think it was Immortality that changed name and became 58 eps. Turn out it was CYJM previous name. When filming started they issued this is a 50 eps drama, the same thing when they finished filming 50 eps – 1 part only. Then new rules came, they changed registration to 34 and 16 eps – 2parts.
Then rules changed again, now it becomes 40 eps but each is 10 min longer. I counted the amount they cut is like 50 min. In the leaked screenplay the immortal arch is abt 14 eps and now we only get 10 eps.
only rumors for now, if it is true, it doesn't mean more content but a different version where episodes are shorter
I'm going to post above abt the eps changes. Mostly 45 min that's like the standard unlike the League of Nobleman which is mostly 40 min or less caused Tencent was super afraid of BL cp.
Read the novel back in late 2020 when I know he gets this project, but even now, I'm like wait wait, was it in the novel or script? And so many things are cut, i almost need to go back and check again. I want to rewatch on Netflix too wt better subs and filter.
While Market shares continue to go up 33.2% wt only 1 ep update, Douban rating goes down again to 5.7. If Market share goes up by 35%, CYJM will be in the top 5 of any types of drama in the past few years. Not many costumes have this privilege let alone a Xianxia drama.

Imo what producer should have done: Cut the dream arch 2 eps and gives us 2 more eps in immortal arch. The plot yest was fast & furious. Even for me who read the script still confusing let alone others.
I hate this 40 eps cap; it should be for new drama not drama that got license. We can see producer tried their best in between the time constrain.
Now I believe all rumours abt TTEOTM bfr it was not ready; it was supposed to air earlier :
1. True CGI is insane, industry insiders in China said, this is the most $$$ burning CGI in drama history, they used 8 top CGI comps and the $$$ spent on this is insane. That’s why other production comp fears TTEOTM. 2. Since yest, in opening song, it said W R working on finalizing subtitle asap and will replace asap…Yeah we get it, Youku is the worst when it comes to subs and yest was even worst.
Maybe we say better postpone it and make everything better. But I understand, so much $$$ on stake here. Yes in sumer more students have time to watch this drama, but there are heavy competitions. Now TTEOTM can shine on its own can earn more ads to pay back the 400M Yuan investment. (100M was to build Hengyang sects building). Both Youku and Otter producer are nervous if this can’t air esp. Otter (bcs of Immortality) and want this out safely in case of unpredicted things happen.
Youku already replaced all the filter, the cakey make up is replaced. Subs will be replaced too. This drama def worth a full rewatch because there are so many things we miss.
I don’t know if Youku is allowed to release the deleted eps but they are listening and responding to critics and tried their best and I appreciate it. Unlike the proud Tencent who won’t give a damn perhaps. If they are allowed, we should go flood their twitter acc and tell him we r willing to pay for deleted scenes. Maybe that’s our only option.
This cut won’t be only TTEOTM, all drama filmed above 40 eps will have the same problems.
