I believe it's his natural tan. Perhaps you're too used to the white faced actors these days. Wang Dalu (Darren Wang) is very refreshing and I love it.
This is pertaining to one of the scenes in Episode 15:
The Purportedly Rape Scene
Many viewers begin to condemn and hate the Bo Wang (Prince of Bo) character when they see the scene and take it as an attempted rape. They have come to this conclusion because they have not truly understood the Bo Wang character and his intentions in doing so. First of all, though Bo Wang was raised by wolves, he's not an animal. He has acted as such (the attempted rape) because he is trying to teach Ma Zhaixing an unforgettable lesson.
We know that Ma Zhaixing's legs are injured. She's not supposed to dance and aggravate her injuries. During her dancing, the lens zooms onto her legs, showing her instability and possibility stabbing pains endured by her. Bo Wang's heart aches (his brows lock) seeing her trying to please him this way. He wants her to stop pleasing him. She wouldn't stop. In desperation, he pretends he wants more, like having sex with her. She's frightened because they haven't officially wedded yet. He feels continuing pressing her this way can deter her, and hence will stop her from trying too hard to please him in future.
Knowing Bo Wang, he has no intention in raping her at all and will never, not even with her consent unless everything is proper (like no more hatred, suspicion etc between them). He's a sentimental person and would never hurt her this way. He just wants her to back off.
I do agree with you, but you're going to see fire crackers from Xiao Zhan's fans XD
True, but many Xiao Zhan's fans feel Ji Chong is a better character than Bo Wang. They claim Ji Chong treats his lady like a princess whereas Bo Wang is nasty. Many want Ji Chong to end up with Ma Zhaixing.
By episode 14, these are a few things that should be mentioned: 1. Xiao Zhan is freaking tall. I thought (from…
Love all your descriptions, in particular point #3. Contrary to you, I love that neckless Bo Wang look because he reminds me of the alpha male wolf (normally with huge furry shoulders and joint neck). Remember how Beast looks in Beauty and The Beast? Ya, that, hunky look XD XD. The costume designers also add fur-like materials to his black garments making him look ferocious. His other black garments shimmer making him look not unlike a wolf with a wet fur coat. So ya, I think the neckless look is deliberate.
I semi-understand why Prince Bo is trying to distance himself from MaZhaXing but I honestly feel like he is doing…
Like you, I normally hate it when a protagonist being mean to a beloved in the name of "for-your-own-good". But in this case, I feel Bo Wang (Prince of Bo) has very valid reasons. Most of all, he's remorseful. He knows once she finds out he's involved in the killings, she would be devastated and would want revenge. He doesn't allow himself to fall in love with her, and doesn't want her to love him either. He's preparing for a eventual split-up that he knows will come sooner or later. He's hoping by then, she is strong enough and has the courage to take revenge (if she hasn't fallen too deep in love with him). So he figures, his hurting is his way of training her to be strong. Though hurting inside himself, he has to push her away, expectedly, into the arms of another man. I love this pull-and-push romance here which I normally not so fond of. But their chemistry is so great that such romance is so beautiful and hurting in my heart.
