Thank you for your wonderful explanation. Now I know my understanding of the whole plot is not too far off, and I shouldn't really apply our normal logic to it; just take it as it is. Thanks again. :)

Agree, LOL! We were discussing watching Jade Dynasty and it's not showing in my little "Gusu" town. We're so side tracked. XD.

That's exactly what I meant. Where I'm, it's similar to Gusu Lan, no entertainment, no nothing (I love it though). I think given the chance, unlike Wei Ying, I can live in Gusu Lan for the rest of my life. I'm kind of like a hermit. :)

As far as the drama is concerned, it has no mention or any indication that JGY is acquainted with XY at all until XY is captured. JGY approaches XY for his Yin metal for his (JGY's) own ambition and XY makes a deal with JGY using his Yin metal. That's the understanding I have. It'll be interesting to see your perspective.

Now that I have more time trying to digest the story and make sense of the mysteries, I come to a conclusion, which is the same as my conclusion after my second re-watch: don't try to put conventional logic into the story; there is none.

Perhaps, this is exactly what the CQL team is intending - leaving it open to let us discuss and speculate. This way, we would re-watch and re-watch umpteen times, which they have succeeded, and then unwittingly, we bring up a furor of discussions on the internet, which they have also succeeded. This is indeed a brilliant marketing strategy!

Another confusing part for me is the left arm. It appears only in the first episode. It stretches longer in the anime and perhaps in the novel. But somehow, the left arm becomes the spirit of the sword later, and then the sword is actually Baxia which takes a different form. All these are so confusing, and I really empathize with non-Chinese speakers who are trying to make sense and digest this.

By friend villain, you mean Jin Guangyao? But at that time, they haven't crossed path yet.

To tell the truth, even after watching this drama for the umpteenth time, I still have so many questions unanswered;…
Thank you so much. You've clarified so many points for me. That's why I'm trying to read the novel to get more understanding. I'm not up to the point how Nie Huaishang has managed to get hold of Mo Xuanyu, but I guessed it more or less along the line. It's just so fascinating that a seemingly know-nothing guy turns out to be the mastermind of all these.

As for Jin Ling, does it mean his spirit is answering Han Guanju in the "Inquiry" because it (the spirit) has left his body? That's why he can't answer many of the questions ie. how he has died, where he is etc? But he knows he is 15 or 16 years old and from the Jin sect. But who has buried him in the wall? Why?

When it comes to the digging of the coffin by Jin Guanyao, the drama has never explained what he was doing. Unless the audience go read the book, it is indeed very confusing.

Like some critics brought up, audiences should not be expected to read the novel to be able to understand the drama. Granted, this drama is low budget and surely it has a lot of holes. But I do feel those critics have very valid points.

Title The Untamed
Yep! Even the Chinese title Chen Qing Ling has a very deep meaning, apart from being the name of the bamboo flute.…
The way I see it, the name "Chen Qing Ling" has a romantic vibe to it. By reading this title, no one would have known it's the name of the flute. So why did they name it this way? I feel that this name gives a subtle message that it is a romantic drama, despite what the English title says, The Untamed, which sounds masculine. Let's break down the Chinese characters in the title. "Chen" can mean old or tell (among others). "Qing" means affection. "Ling" means order. It was the "Qing" character that attracted me to watch this drama in the first place. So you see, the producers/directors are so brilliant in this sense. They used the title "The Untamed" to attract non-Chinese or non-Chinese spoken audiences, and they use the Chinese title to attract audiences who knows Chinese, or very elementary basic Chinese like me.

In his interview, Xiao Zhan also says he's frightened of the fame, that it might not be real or just temporary, and it may suddenly disappear.

Title The Untamed Spoiler
To tell the truth, even after watching this drama for the umpteenth time, I still have so many questions unanswered;…
Like your question, where is Xue Yang's Yin metal? Lan Zhan's piece detects it, but they can't find it on him. Where does he hide it? It doesn't seem plausible that it's with JGY because before Wei Ying and gang bring Xue Yang back to Qing He, I don't think JGY knows Xue Yang at all.

My other question is, what is JGY trying to find in the coffin in the temple? The other piece of Yin metal? But I thought they have used it to make the other stygian tiger seal already.

Was it Jin Ling's spirit that is answering Lan Zhan's "Inquiry" in the Stone Castle? Does that mean Jin Ling dies in there and revived by Wei Ying?

My greatest mystery of all is, how NHS finds Wei Ying, even Han GuanJun cannot, given Lan Zhan has a higher cultivation than NHS. How does NHS also find Mo XuanYu to convince him to give up his body and soul to bring back Wei Ying?

Questions abound and yet answers not found despite re-watching multiple times.

No matter what, still my favorite drama of all time. XD.

You're right. In the anime, there are no Yin metal pieces, and Wei Ying encounters spirits and ghosts a lot earlier than in the drama when he cultivates them.

To tell the truth, even after watching this drama for the umpteenth time, I still have so many questions unanswered; your question is one of them. Normally under such circumstances, I would have dropped the show and leave a below 5/10 rating. But for this drama, I just feel those questions are not important anymore (though it's nice to know the answers). I still love and enjoy it nonetheless. I know this doesn't make sense. ......

A lot of Chinese romance dramas like to portray women as airheads and when they fall for their men, they would do anything to win the men's hearts, including degrading themselves. It's so hard to watch sometimes. I love "Go Go Squid", but mostly for the charismatic male character, Han Shang Yan. The huge difference in The Untamed is that there's no one chasing after anyone per se. Despite Lan Zhan's deep love for Wei Ying, he does it with dignity and subtly. That's why the relationship is so beautiful and trumps all other dramas.
