Han Dong's acting is really good. Almost half way through, we still don't know he's good or bad. Many viewers see the villain in him, I'm not so sure (I'm always wrong).
My first impression of the first two episodes.Another good script has fallen into the hands of the wrong director.…
Cheng Yi's character is rather hard to play because he is multi faceted. The character embodies both good and bad. I feel Cheng Yi is very good in portraying characters like this, a misunderstood character, and he has to endure all the misunderstanding and pain silently. You can really feel his resignation in his demeanor and from his eyes.
What an experience. The twists and turns of this drama are simply superb. It continues to impress and confound.…
Historically we know Li Yan died and Guang Wang succeeded the throne. I'm not surprised in this story, Qi Yan feigns his death and elopes with the woman he's not allowed to marry, and let Guang Wang ascend to the throne. Remember the story in "Secret of Three Kingdoms"? The Empress feigns her death and the Emperor abdicates, and they live happily ever after. Therefore, from that perspective, I'm still hopeful Guang Wang is still the good guy, though I have been wrong all the times :)
The caption says "Qi Yan" but the voice says "Li Yan". Even the production themselves are all confused :?
Yes, the Emperor's name in the synopsis is Li Yan, historically he was Li Yan. But in this drama, he is supposed to be Qi Yan. So the caption says Qi Yan, but the voice says Li Yan. Don't you think they have not done their work properly?
The caption says "Qi Yan" but the voice says "Li Yan". Even the production themselves are all confused :?
Same thing with the page here: the synopsis says Li Yan, but the character list says Qi Yan. Someone needs to rewrite the synopsis. It's so confusing, especially for non Chinese speaking viewers.
The Emperor is so miserable that I don't know if I should laugh at his misfortune or feel sad ...
.. and they have changed the English title to "Stand By Me", no more Chang'an which I thought was rather stale. After all, there's no reference of Chang'an in the story at all.
Apart from the term "Chang'an" and Cheng Yi (and a few others), a world of differences :D
IKR! In some other summaries I read, Qi Yan dies and passes the throne to his uncle. Another miserable character for Cheng Yi here. I guess Cheng Yi is so good in portraying miserable characters so he's given the roles all the time. He is doing amazingly good here - the resignation, the look in his eyes, etc.
Did they mention one was older than the other? If not then they might be fraternal twins.
In most other summaries for other platforms, they never mention these are twin sisters, just sisters. When you look at the scenes in episode 1 when the girls were still little, one is obviously a lot bigger than the other, so they cannot be of the same age.
How's the lockdown at your side of the world? I heard cases are pretty bad.
