It took me a long time to see this because it's hard to find but the Blue ray version finally turned up on Internet Archive. It's hella fun and deserves a higher rating than 6.7. The film looks great thanks to high contrast color grading that makes it look like a live action manga. The action is silly and so is the acting but it's deliberate and you just have to let your brain go into neutral and enjoy the ride. It's fun to see very young Jang Hyuk, Shin Min Ah and Gong Hyo Jin. JH was knocked unconscious during filming and you can see it happen in the behind the scenes video: https://youtu.be/jrxfzO4Q_wI
The Internet Archive also has the 2004 MTV edit of the film with voice overs by Andre 3000, Method Man, Snoop Dawg and a lot of other hip hop artists. Unfortunately it's not as fun as it should be because Andre 3000 does a terrible job voicing Jang Hyuk's character. Better to stick with the original.
Hate to be the odd one out but I am 6 episodes in and I genuinely do not get how and why the score is that high.…
You're just not a fan of slice of life dramas. I'm not a big fan of them either and didn't like the Reply series but I liked this one for the focus on unfair treatment of women and relationships between mothers and daughters.
I'm watching this because I'm a Jang Hyuk fan and this is his best known drama but it's so bad. I cannot figure out why it was a big hit. Even the fight scenes are badly choreographed. On the acting level I've seen JH do much better in other dramas like My Country: The New Age and Money Flower.
ETA: I finished and it got much better for me in the second half after Dae Gil meets up with Eon Nyeon and all of the plot threads start to come together. I feel like there was potentially a good drama in here because I did find the slave rebellion and discussions of class and Justice to be really interesting but instead we had to focus on a stupid boring love triangle and badly choreographed fight scenes.
Where this drama stands if compared with the director's other works like My Mister and Misaeng ??
My Mister is better written with a story arc that resolves in a deeply satisfying way at the end. Tangerines is very good but the constant time skips took me out of the story and it kind of ran out of steam in the second half except for plot development in the very last episode that didn't land for me the way it was intended.
I think this drama rarely has any haters, but people usually review this drama negatively by providing any of…
I liked the drama but my criticism is that it is a bit emotionally and manipulative and goes too hard on the tragedy. When something bad happens you have people screaming and crying plus dramatic music plus a voice over telling you how to feel. for me it was a bit too much. I still enjoyed the drama and rated it 8.5 but it isn't a masterpiece to me.
Emotionally manipulative in what way? What did you think the drama wanted you to feel/think?
I mean that in sad scenes you'd have the actors emoting plus Geum-yeong or Ae-son's voice over and really heavy music and I felt pushed to feel a certain way rather than letting the emotions come organically. I would've preferred fewer voice overs and less music so I could let the interactions do the work. Show not tell.
I just finished and gave it an 8.5. I think it's a solidly good drama made with a lot of love and care with incredible production values but it also felt emotionally manipulative at times and a bit like trauma porn. I also wasn't a fan of the constant jumps back and forth in the timeline. It fell short of greatness for me. But I would definitely recommend it to people especially if they're fans of slice of life (not a genre I usually like so the fact that I liked this says a lot)
Episode 2: even the students were angry at that girl for reporting a teacher assaulting her to the police 😬 I wonder when things changed in Korea because I know today parents would sue the school. But I'm having fun watching it, I didn't realize fetus Bae Doona was in it.
people discovering she plays herself in each role. listening to the latest nct 127 album while scrolling this…
I'm watching her right now in Thank You, a 2008 drama, and it's the same there. Head down, stammering, can't look the ML in the eye. But she's a good fit for the role in the drama so it's fine. Not so great in some other roles though.
For some reason page translation isn't working for me in Chrome, I haven't been able to fix the problem and it's annoying ETA: nvm, I looked on Reddit and if I right click the page I get the option to translate. Duh I feel stupid.
"I would be convinced if they said the government made it as a measure to counter the low birth rate."
"Universe=uterus This is a drama created to instill the writer's own bizarre ideas, so it's full of sex, sex, uterus, pregnancy, and pregnancy, and then they make the female lead give birth in space and die."
Here's one for the fans: "If it had been a drama about encouraging childbirth, it would have been an ending where a happy family was formed. The ending is that the mother dies giving birth and the father becomes blind and paralyzed from the waist down. It's literally a masterpiece."
"In this day and age, if what the writer wants to say is the uterus, then just stop writing."
"I'm going crazy wondering how this drama got 50 billion won in investment. It wasn't even a script in the first place."
"I had a great time feasting my eyes on the space scenes lol It wasn't my money lol"
I'm jealous you're bilingual because the comments on Korean sites are hilarious but I have to use a translation app so it's a pain in the butt to read them. Everyone is seeing right through the propaganda.
Comment on The Qoo: "He said it was like watching a man masturbate and crying and saying 'Ah, my babies' when he saw the semen coming out. Lol" 💀💀💀
