That's a good call. I've been pleasantly surprised by many dramas with low scores and I've also been really disappointed with highly rated ones. Online ratings across the board aren't the best metric.

I want to say that Eternal Love's score tanked on douban because of the plagiarism controversy. Douban scores definitely aren't all unreliable and they tend to be far more accurate than MDL. Look at last year's An Ancient Love Song. No traffic actors, low budget, still one of the highest rated dramas on douban in 2023.

I mean, fandom absolutely does play a role. Yang Mi may have a large fanbase but Cheng Yi's is way more intense. They'll show up and help amp up the hype for the drama. Ultimately if the dramas a dud then the dramas a dud, but Cheng Yi's fans will help at least with viewership😭

How is ZYQ not getting main roles in higher budget dramas?

You're so right. I definitely want to rewatch now after knowing everything. It was such a unique xianxia and the leads were so different than the typical characters we get in this genre. They were so clever, strong, and goofy. I loved them <3

I have to call BS. Nothing she did was purposefully rude, he was a blatant little asshole.

The scene where Shen Li's dad and her come face to face, the sweet words spoken by her father were so touching but omg ZLY's face. She conveyed exactly what she needed to with no words required. She had me in tears. She was great the whole show, but those last few episodes she was fantastic. The last scene between her and Mofang, the scene with her and XZ in the barrier, the scene where XZ dies, she killed it in every one. I'm happy she's been doing more diverse roles and getting more recognition as an artist, but I have to admit how much this xianxia warmed my heart to see her in.

The last third of this drama is by far the best part. I want to gush about my favorite scene in the show down below

MNG has the most regal demeanor of any male lead I've ever seen. He truly gives off the impression of a nobleman. So elegant and masculine. I can't get over how brilliant he was in this.
