lol...what have you been watching???drama:HRF's dad married HY's mom (her second marriage). HY and HRF became…
for women in the past, once they are married, they stay with the husband's family...unless they divorce or separate. it's uncommon for the women to stay at her maternal family after marriage. if divorce/separate, she would be sent off to a temple or country side estates.
for cheng lei's fans...watch him in: a familiar stranger. this was the first drama i watch for cheng lei (a newbie then)...it's a mini drama so it goes by pretty fast.
Idk if I read the same novel as some of these reviewers. I thought it was a very good adaptation. HY was reborn…
novel reader. i would not say it's a 'good' adaptation. a lot of characters were excluded or combined to fit the screen. HY and XJ's characters from the novel is slightly altered in the drama as well.
it's still watchable but i would not say it was very good.
He has never been a kind hearted person & he was the same in the novel. I’m not quite sure how some people…
the novel him is waaaaaaay better than the drama version. novel CZ did everything to survive...not b/c he wanted to, but there was no better option w/ his background and political ties to the chancellor.
This is the first Chinese historical drama I truly enjoyed watching. The plot was engaging and had strong Mulan…
you should watch love like the galaxy next! one of my fav and the novel to drama adaption is pretty good! last few episodes are a bit rushed...but that seems to be the case for c dramas.
They took out so much from the novel but they still killed Yan He 😭
if the drama is going to change things up, i was hoping Yan He survived...maybe seriously injured/maimed...but SURVIVE and live to see his wife and baby
They could have ended at EP 34 and give Yan He family a happy ending
reality of war... novel: a couple of HY's squad dies in battle. i forgot who died. Wang Ba survived and he founded an orphanage. HY came back with a leg wound from the last battle. She came back with the last group of the army due to her injury, which she didn't tend to b/c she kept on fighting to keep morale up. XJ waited and pine for her return. The novel ended with HY on krutches popping up to a melancholy XJ slowly walking away from the city gate.
What was the significance of the butterfly at the end with the widow and baby? I assume it was suppose to represent…
in chinese culture, the decease comes back to see the family in the form of a butterfly or moth. growing up, i was told never to kill butterfly/moth if it flies around the house/home.
oh yeah, on their second visit to ji yiang, HY bumped into CZ (who does painting/writing for a living, living a quiet/simple life in the city) at the night market. old acquaintances catching up...HY was buying a tiger candy shape for her daughter...and from that, CZ asked if it's for her child. it was a friendly catch up or sorts...XJ saw their interaction and was feeling indifferent about it. there's something about CZ being around HY makes XJ uneasy.
HY sense XJ's attitude about it and was trying to coax him by suggesting she would do anything to make it up to him. XJ just gave her a tempting look of sorts to which HY was like you're not mad, you 're just lusting for me! XJ smiles and said yes.
That night, XJ got some action. HY woke up with a sore back the next morning from all the work. hahahahaha....
if you are a big fan of the novel, the drama will be a disappointment to watch. however, the drama does include some important lines and plots/climax from the novel. if this drama was filmed in seasons (like american shows), it would be super good!
not a lot of character background story or development. it emphasizes about feminism but goes back and forth w/ the social norms of the time. focus more on the love story rather than their individual backstory, redemption and journey.
some characters were axed, some combine as one.
it's still a decent adaption compare to other novel to drama adaptions.
From what I understood, his mother had him without being married and, later, she died. His uncle probably adopted…
he was only taken in as a child to avoid bringing shame to the family. the couple didn't treat him like family. the couple didn't help the mom, but let the mom drown in despair. the drama really abuse CZ' storyline lol.

cheng lei and FL was pretty good in this drama.

drama:
HRF's dad married HY's mom (her second marriage). HY and HRF became step siblings through their union.
the screenwriter didn't really think this one through.
novel: a couple of HY's squad dies in battle. i forgot who died. Wang Ba survived and he founded an orphanage.
