Overall a superb crafted script. There was bitter sweetness at the end but realistic. Sorry that general Wei Lang…
it's weird that the drama made wei liang died...bc in the novel, he was severly injured where he barely miss death's door. it's bc of the qiao family's fault, FL have ci served under his tutelege to make up for what the qiao family put him through...to make things right as well. Ci is young and inexperience when it comes to fighting on the field...but the drama made it seem like he's naturally a soldier.

AHHHH!! I totally love this drama! And I've finally finished this!!! How satisfying! This drama is for people…
if you like the adaption of this drama, you need to read the book! the book is more steamy and plot is more clean/straight forward. everyone except the villians have a happy ending. there's also a funny sub story in the end...where WS got stuck in the cat (the one he gifted FL and later became the grandma's cat).

There is a fatal flaw in this story. It really bothers me. Why is there a love story between Yunyi and Prince…
Yunyi is only concubine in name. She is a shadow guard under ML's fraction. Her actions are weird and not your normal concubine b/c she is not. Having Yunyi come in as a concubine served two purposes: protect FL at all times (without attracting attention) and to add women to the manor. The queen dowager wanted to set up a second wife (or their own people/spy) for the ML.

So back in the days, the guys family lives together under one manor. If there’s more than one son and each of them is married, they are refer to ā€˜branches’ 房 (house/room)And by their birth order. All the kids are numbered by birth order regardless which son they are born to. The daughters are excluded bc they are married out of the family. Back then, girls get marry around the age of 14-16. They hardly stay home past that age. Once married out, they are not considers as part of the family as they are married into their husbands family.

Gege is more like a form of respect for a guy older than you. It’s confusing bc it’s the same reference as gege (brother). For Hidden Love, their age difference is 5 years and ML being the peer of FL’s brother, it’s respectful to address him as ge (jiashu ge). FL also call her brother’s other friend as Chen fei ge. It’s like Korean culture, where you address older guys as oppa and older girls as unni.

I noticed in some drama in much more older time period, the family members addressed the kids by name and added with a ge’er or jie’er (like to differentiate gender) for the kids.

Biological brother. But because the uncle didn't have an heir only the daughter he adopted Qiao Ci so he can pass…
He didn’t adopted Ci. He just see him as the heir bc he is the only Qiao male. If it’s adopted, they have to note it in the lineage book etc. and if adoption, he can’t call his real father father anymore. Throughout the novel and drama, ci always called him big uncle (da Boi).

Yes. Their dad is the second Qiao Son…not the older one who is governor.

Yeah Asian culture have a name for each relation…it’s complicated but by their title, you differentiate a clear lineage by the man or woman side. I find this interesting and more spot on than western culture with the cousin, first second or twice remove for all parties.

For tang, they see each other as siblings with the same bloodline/family name so a lot of times they drop the tang and just address as big/small sister/brother. In western culture, it’s all cousins regardless of sides.

I don't know why the subs keep mixing it up. Is the word for cousin and brother/sister the same in Mandarin? I…
It is …see my previous response. The translations confusing if they don’t get the family terminology right.

Incorrect. Manman and Ci are biological siblings. They lost their mother at a young age. Thru dad never remarried. Lady Ding (da qiao’s mom) takes care of them like her own children. Da Qiao is the oldest child from their father’s brother. They refer to each other as big/small sister/brother regardless of parents bc they are related by the dad’s side of the family.

For Asian culture, the dad’s side of the family are ā€˜tang’ (due to the same last name. Biao (cousin) for the mother’s side due to the different last name.
