This drama is well written and adapted...but I can't bring myself to complete it due to the character's endings. BDJ who grew up with everything ends up with nothing but living in a drunken state of losses, sadness, loneliness and regret. It's the stories of legends for sure, but the growth, choices, sacrifices and ending for these beloved characters are too tragic/sad.

Oh yeah you’re not the only hater, BDJ also hates YWJ in the novel for what happen to his BFF. BDJ can’t do anything to YWJ bc he knows YDZ would not be happy (even in death). So your annoyance of the character is validated lol.

This is the reason YDZ chose to kill himself in the end. He realized the mistakes and wrong he committed base on his selfish love for YWJ. He didn’t blame her but only himself bc that was his choice. YDZ is a very sad character who went from having something to ending up with nothing. It’s heart breaking.

Bc of her selfishness, she used and ruined 3 men who were whole heartedly devoted to her. She was loved by many but failed everyone. In the end she always choose herself and bc of that, she ended up with nothing (in terms of life: love one, family, etc), thus the jaded character in the sequel. So everyone who pity her as a trapped person in her fate don’t see how selfish of a character she is. She has choices but she choose to sacrifice others to get to her goal.

the lead female and supporting actresses in this drama are so unfamiliar, i personally find them 'plain'...it seems to be the case when it comes down to light romance wuxia dramas.

like i say, with or without...folks complaining about the ML and FL having the same 'personality' will complain if they are something else.

lol you can’t win with it without these traits. I doubt audience will like to watch an ugly unsuccessful weirdo as the ML or an annoying bratty untalenteded FL. People will really riot if the m at in leads are that flawed.

isn't ML's cold personality a type of flaw?

crush is not the same as love. it seems like the bff has a kind of admiration/infatuation for ML. you can see a rectangle forming here: ML likes FL, 2ML likes 2FL, 2FL likes ML, FL likes ? first love is hard to grasp, it turns a lifetime of love or a lifetime of bittersweet/regret. here's hoping all the characters embraces their 'first love' and realize what kind of love is for them.

That’s the vibe I get from her character

that drama production was so bad...such a waste of the star actors.

she was 13 and he was 17-18. when they met again, she was 17 and he was finishing college. fast forward, she's 21 and he's 25. it started as an innocent crush/admiration to a high school fantasy crush to adulthood where they explore the possibility of a real relationship. this drama is about the childhood crush that is more than just a crush for the FL; that turn into something deeper.

i read the novel (breaks down DJX's emotional conflict w/ his family tragedy and why SZ is very protective of him) and saw the drama...a pretty good adaption of the novel.

we all have a childhood crush on older relative's friends. it's a normal childhood fantasy...
a lot of moms in china wanted this to be ban b/c they think it's bad influence on girls who wants a relationship with older men.

the turning point for DJX and SZ is when they met again when she is in college. he treated her like family/sister b/c he was treated like family by SZ's brother. DJX is forever indebted to SZ's family for helping out during the toughest time (passing of his mother). In turn, DJX treats SZ like a little sister. SZ is super protective of DJX, giving DJX a sense of being loved, that he then started to like her more than a sister figure.

Go Ahead---they grew up like siblings but not blood related. It's a beautiful story of what makes a family work.

Story of MingLan: a modern lawyer in her 20s dies in an accident on a work trip and when she wakes up, she is the child that is MingLan. It's a weird combo of the modern girl demise, wakes up and is living in the past. she has no other choice than to live out her life as ming lan. She retains memories of her past life while living/growing up as MingLan. Time period is around the Song Dynasty.

i just finished reading the story of MingLan...it navigates female's society standing/status in a very conservative time where it favors men more. the drama adaption is pretty good and also follows closely to the novel with some minor changes.
