the original FL actress (yuan bingyan) was canceled because of tax evasion, and the drama was shelved for 2-3 years. they eventually casted hu yixuan for FL and re-shot/edited scenes
finally finished my rewatch! my opinions on this drama are almost the same as before.
this is a drama that gets better with each episode. i love how the focus isn't solely on our leads xuanji and sifeng; it makes the show more interesting. i also appreciate that they gave us good closure on all the characters. besides sifeng and xuanji, i adore teng she and i'm thankful towards the actor bai shu for portraying teng she to be so loveable.
the only major difference now that i've rewatched 5 years later is that i feel more empathetic towards xuanji. more specifically... i used to hate how she treated sifeng in the whole sifeng-is-actually-a-demon arc. now, i realize (from my understanding) she wasn't upset about him being a demon — she was upset that he lied to her about not being a demon.
LIED.
if we remember what happened to her original self, star of mosha / god of war, she was angry because king bailing lied to her. hence if we consider this characterization, it makes perfect sense for xuanji to be severely distraught over sifeng's lie. plus, even though she was upset and said/did hurtful things to him, she still held some trust and belief in him and always defended him when others spoke badly of him (this is a lot coming from someone who supposedly has no emotions!!)
of course xuanji is still at fault to a certain degree but it's not right to put the entire blame on her. we know very well that her words and actions during that time were mostly because of outside influence rather than personal choice, and sifeng still continued to lie to her after all, saying to just wait and he'll eventually explain everything. but even though the lies were out of love to protect her, what xuanji wanted most was simply for them to not hide secrets from each other anymore, so imagine how she felt when sifeng persisted.
see how xuanji was even mad at teng she in ep 53 because she knew he was lying about not wanting to be with her anymore? she just really despises liars. i do appreciate the writers for staying in line with her character.
anyway, rant over...!
i love this show, i love xuanji and sifeng, i love teng she. peak and satisfying ending! one of the best dramas ever made, honestly.
(ps. i wish yuan bingyan can make a comeback soon. she portrayed cute and badass well)
Who would suspect he's an undercover agent? 😱https://x.com/Lala_JCT/status/2058406294403313808"Stop, stop,…
!! this is a huge reason why i am okay with BEs.
i've seen dramas where one or both leads lost EVERYTHING — their home, people, and most importantly, family members — but it seems that the writers often think "well at least the leads still have each other" so they force a HE. one example i can name is "the double."
in reality, how do you even recover that? especially for someone like XQS... i can't imagine his character being okay in the end after losing all his people. (this is also why i loved LYF's "non tragic" ending even though XL made me cry and i didn't like the endgame)
omg Xie Queshan!!! anyone kno what this scene is about?? http://xhslink.com/o/lhJ0ZpbO04 I can feel the pressure…
translation of someone's comment on XHS. i don't dare to read the novel and plus, the drama may make changes, so not sure if this is truly what's happening. but if it is then that's heartbreaking 😞
"The soldiers of his own country were being pushed to bang their heads against drums, and Xie Queshan's heart was filled with deep pain and anger, yet he could only pretend to be calm and composed. Unable to bear watching him suffer any longer, Xie Queshan could only turn around and give him a final push to end his torment. Even if a soldier were to die, he should die on the battlefield, Xie Queshan thought, but at this moment, he was too powerless to do anything about it." [remember that XQS is supposed to be an undercover agent]
After some weeks offline and only recently having seen *those* leaks, I’m really rooting for the ending to follow…
me too! BE are sad but they are memorable. i'd prefer a BE any day over a forced HE (do you know how many dramas i've seen where one of the leads who died somehow magically got revived at the end?)
majority of my comments here are simply counterarguments to people who think child-adult romances like this are okay. if you've truly seen my comments as you claimed then you should know very well that i have never hated on any actor or actress — only criticized the agencies, production companies, and parents.
the fact that you've already decided to lump morality in the same group as hate says a lot about you though...
it's 2026 and i still find this boring lol. but it'll always be nostalgic and dear to me in some way, since it's the first drama i watched of tan jianci after becoming his fan. even just listening to the OSTs reminds me of how my life was like back then.
FYI i'm not a hater of her if that's what you're assuming. i've mentioned this on MJTY, FOF, and her MDL profile page before. (i've even voiced my concern on huangyuan tian tian's page, who's facing a similar situation as ai mi with the child x adult pairings). i just tend to comment on here since neo is one of the actors i enjoy watching, and based on the promo, i would've loved to watch this one if the FL was older.
why do some of you automatically assume we are haters? is being a hater worse than being a moral advocate?
it doesn't matter if this child-adult pairing was done before or it became popular or well received. this is morally wrong and should not be normalized at all — regardless in fiction or reality.
there's just way too many crazy fans who think they own these celebrities.on xiaohongshu (rednote), i sometimes…
right?? i knew it was bad but i never realized how bad it was either until i downloaded XHS
i've gotten flamed by some chinese xiaotanhuos (TJC fans) for expressing my opinion on these stuff lol. like i'm sorry that i view my fav actor as a real human being with real human feelings
