Interesting point about the antagonists. Although he was somewhat one note, I thought the main one, Jin Song Feng,…
i was thinking that too! thankfully li qi didn't end up like him

beginning: very intriguing
middle: shocking and emotional, then draggy 🥱
end: lil draggy but amazing plot twist

although it won't leave you terrified for days, the storyline is fairly unique compared to typical other horror movies. decent watch!

8/10 overall rating. as a horror movie, 5/10.

so glad that more of us international fans have the chance to watch it now :)

some of the reviewers' already voiced out my thoughts — like the antagonists being one-dimensional and not explored enough, as well as the ending being rushed — so i won't say too much. the movie overall was enjoyable and is absolutely worth a watch! all the actors did a spectacular job in their roles (lan xiya as zhang xiaorui caught my eye multiple times) and the cinematography was beautiful too.

my fear about the dubbing lowkey ruining the show came true. i'm not a fan of churan's dubber (i think it's the same one who dubs dilraba). on top of that, it sounds like someone took the audio from the donghua and played it over humans re-enacting the scenes 😭 but i'm glad the dubbing and mouth at least sync up.

that aside, the story is entertaining so far. churan and cheng lei make a wonderful duo!

I suddenly noticed in the morning today that the Mango TV YouTube channel suddenly took down several Hello Saturday…
not sure if it's related, but the youtube channel "china hunantv official channel" (which uploaded some hi6 content like their theme song MV) was terminated.

maybe they faced some copyright issues with hello saturday....? other than that, i have no clue O___O

finished!

ngl the show started losing momentum the moment it transitioned to the more modern setting. the timeskips made my head hurt too. i enjoyed it overall though. ep 15 and 16 made me cry buckets 😭

older aesun shared practically the same characterization as her younger self — stubborn and unafraid to speak her mind. on the other hand, gwangsik's older self was smiley and loudly scolded his kids which contradicted his younger self who was gentler and not too expressive. i know people aren't immune to change especially after so many years, but i wished the drama at least showed this transition more smoothly cuz i had a tough time imagining younger gwangsik doing or saying the things older gwangsik did.

in the older setting, they should’ve given more screentime to their kids. the show focused so much on gwangsik and aesun that i'd forget they even had kids lol. i didn't even feel sad when their youngest son passed away — that's how absent their kids' presence was.

the biggest issue i have that ruined the show for me (and i rarely see anyone mention) is aesun and gwangsik not loving their kids equally. it was obvious they loved their daughter geummyeong more, and it didn't help that the show often made a big deal out of their parent-daughter moments. compare it to how they brush off or treat the son eunmyeong as comedy.

"a child may abandon sick parents but not the other way around" i never perceived it as eunmyeong abandoning his parents but i guess that's what this show wants to convey. i'm happy those aunties called aesun out on her favoritism in that one scene but extremelyy disappointed with her response. she once said "what i fear most is that i might hurt them because i don't know how to be a mom" yet you could easily be more supportive towards your daughter??

eunmyeong could NEVER voice out his struggles without his mom saying "your sister is suffering too" or his dad saying "your mom is suffering too." so frustrating how the neglect persisted til near the end like they learned absolutely NOTHING from their late youngest child (funny i wrote this before watching ep 14)

this show seems so great from aesun, gwangsik, and geummyeong's perspective but from eunmyeong's... poor eunmyeong why does everyone keep hitting you and yelling at you. (someone pls tell aesun to stop hitting everyone 😭)

that being said, there were things i liked about this show, enough for me to rate it 8/10 despite that one big criticism. the acting for sure; everyone played their roles out well — except maybe the youngsters but that's a minor issue. no pun intended

young aesun and gwangsik were more interesting to watch; i loved their loyalty and love towards each other. however, i appreciated the realism in geummyeong's story too! not everyone gets a fairytale ending with their first love; simply loving each other isn't enough to sustain a relationship. that’s just life...

i applaud the stylists and makeup artists. the "older" version of characters really did look older appearance-wise.

i loved how the parents tried to make a better life for their kids, and how the kids tried to make a better life for their own kids when they themselves became parents.

i think i was expecting too much from this show. it's absolutely nowhere near terrible but i do not consider it a masterpiece like what many said. ik i'd be downvoted to oblivion if comments could be voted on 😅 yet still, i stand by my opinions and will gladly be the odd one out. it is still worth a watch!
