Both movies are directed by Hiroshi Shimizu, arguably the grandfather of Japanese cinema.
Both show a bus driver and his passengers on the road. Both takes place inside and in the surroundings of the bus.

Mr. Thank You is settled during Showa Depression Japan, early 1930s. Cities are brimming with financial despair, and country roads are always busy with jobless people, tired peddlers , unhoused travelers, and unfortunate families seeking any opportunity to survive their desperate situation. In Mr. Thank You, the bus driver is gentle and charismatic.

Tomorrow There Will Be Fine Weather show a post-war Japanese society. The movie was rediscovered in 2022 by the National Film Archive of Japan.
